In the nineties, Vienna became famous for its electronic music scene and Bernhard Fleischmann found its unique place in it. A laptop, sound loops, rhythm patterns. A gig at the legendary picknick@rhiz festival. Indulging melodies, but never sugary, surrounded by tricky rhythm structures. Songs, not just tracks, arranged on an impressing record – “pop loops for breakfast” found the love story between Bernhard Fleischmann and the young label Morr Music in autumn 1998. The “Sidonie EP” followed in 1999. Bernhard Fleischmann became a busy live artist, touring through Austria, Germany, Europe, the USA and nearly the rest of the world. The album “Choir of Empty Beds” was released on Fuzzy Box (2000). Besides, tracks for compilations on Morr Music (“Putting the Morr back into Morrissey“) and other labels – Christof Kurzmann’s Vienna based label Charizma, for instance. Bernhard Fleischmann’s “Nico”-7inch was the opener for the Morr Music-series “a number of small things” (2001).
Later came “Welcome Tourist” (autumn 2001) featuring Christof Kurzmann.
Together with Herbert Weixelbaum Bernhard Fleischmann formed Duo 505, delicate pulsing electronica. Their album “late” was released in autumn 2005 on Morr Music.
Together with Christof Kurzmann, Burkhard Stangl, Martin Siewert and Werner Dafeldecker – those who already have played one song together on “Welcome Tourist” – he founded The Year of, a country-esque chamber orchestra with slide guitars, clarinets, interferences, echo chambers. Songs in cinemascope, electro-acoustic experiences. Their debut “Slow Days” was released in spring 2006 also on Morr Music.
And there is „The Humbucking Coil“ Bernhard Fleischmann’s third solo record released in February 2006 – euphoric pop in slow motion, rustling rhythm patterns, songs that linger and indulge. Vibraphone, piano, electric guitars in a still electronic working process. Pop songs of course.
Bernhard Fleischmann is also the composer for different film scores: Bady Mincks “Am Anfang war der Blick“ (shown in Cannes 2003); Jörg Kalts “Crash Test Dummies” (shown at the berlinale 2005); and Marc Bauders and Dörte Frankes “Jeder schweigt von etwas anderem” (shown at the Berlinale 2006).

Said she gonna pop like one time then that one time turned to a habit
Naw we ain't smoking no ho yeah that pole on me that shit is a -
Run down gang was mad as fuck my Brodie got blood on his jacket
Headshot gang was sad as fuck cause we had to sell that ratchet
Aye, Yo bitch like my twin and shit cause we go hand in hand
Every time i'm in it that ho say that I'm the man
Gotta get that money I wake up I ain't got no plan
Pigs gonna give me 10 I'm riding dirty got contraband
Pack ain't got no stems I'm smoking on runts I'm smoking on kill
Way that lil boy went was like that Bill, he died in the field
Keep that shit all on me when I'm outside cause shit got real
Heard they hit head then he got back up he should've been killed
WNB my shit I just told zay that he can't fail
We get high as fuck walk in that room and you can smell
Back door vibes from this bitch is she really down? i just can't tell
Folks said he hope God ain't real if he is he going to hell

Sicko shit I ain't sipping on green

Every time i'm in it that ho say that I'm the man
Gotta get that money I wake up I ain't got no plan
Pigs gonna give me 10 I'm riding dirty got contraband
The lyrics of "Hand In" by B. Fleischmann delve into a raw portrayal of the challenging lifestyle and mindset of the singer. The repetitive chants of "yeah yeah yeah yeah" and "oh shit oh shit" set a tone of agitation and urgency, suggesting a sense of chaos and inner turmoil. The opening lines introduce a scene where the singer is consumed by his vices, notably emphasizing his attachment to a substance, possibly alcohol or drugs, represented by the reference to kissing a cup more than his partner. This behavior is further underscored by the mention of paranoia and the need for self-defense with a weapon.
The theme of indulgence and the consequences that follow are central to the narrative as the singer acknowledges the dangers of his habits, alluding to a blurred line between pleasure-seeking and potential harm. The imagery of sipping on purple liquid and the gradual descent into addiction is vividly depicted through lines like "No aim? tap that switch" and "Said she gonna pop like one time then that one time turned to a habit." The reference to avoiding snitching and the harsh realities of the streets, as seen in lines about confrontations and violence, paints a bleak picture of the singer's environment and the sacrifices made to survive.
The chorus of the song shifts the focus to themes of loyalty and partnership, as the singer reflects on a seemingly close relationship with another person, likening them to being like twins who go hand in hand. Despite the chaos and struggles depicted in the verses, there is a sense of camaraderie and shared experiences that bond them together. The urgency to secure money and the mention of illegal activities like possessing contraband add a layer of desperation and risk to the narrative, highlighting the constant threat of being caught or facing consequences for their actions.
The song concludes with a mix of defiance and introspection as the singer reflects on their actions and the impact they have on others. The portrayal of a reckless lifestyle, fueled by substance abuse and reckless behavior, is juxtaposed with moments of vulnerability and doubt. The mention of wearing a mask metaphorically alludes to hiding one's true self, while the references to destructive tendencies and realizing one's faults add depth to the portrayal of internal struggles. Overall, "Hand In" by B. Fleischmann offers a poignant reflection on the complexities of addiction, loyalty, and the harsh realities of living on the edge of society.
