In the nineties, Vienna became famous for its electronic music scene and Bernhard Fleischmann found its unique place in it. A laptop, sound loops, rhythm patterns. A gig at the legendary picknick@rhiz festival. Indulging melodies, but never sugary, surrounded by tricky rhythm structures. Songs, not just tracks, arranged on an impressing record – “pop loops for breakfast” found the love story between Bernhard Fleischmann and the young label Morr Music in autumn 1998. The “Sidonie EP” followed in 1999. Bernhard Fleischmann became a busy live artist, touring through Austria, Germany, Europe, the USA and nearly the rest of the world. The album “Choir of Empty Beds” was released on Fuzzy Box (2000). Besides, tracks for compilations on Morr Music (“Putting the Morr back into Morrissey“) and other labels – Christof Kurzmann’s Vienna based label Charizma, for instance. Bernhard Fleischmann’s “Nico”-7inch was the opener for the Morr Music-series “a number of small things” (2001).
Later came “Welcome Tourist” (autumn 2001) featuring Christof Kurzmann.
Together with Herbert Weixelbaum Bernhard Fleischmann formed Duo 505, delicate pulsing electronica. Their album “late” was released in autumn 2005 on Morr Music.
Together with Christof Kurzmann, Burkhard Stangl, Martin Siewert and Werner Dafeldecker – those who already have played one song together on “Welcome Tourist” – he founded The Year of, a country-esque chamber orchestra with slide guitars, clarinets, interferences, echo chambers. Songs in cinemascope, electro-acoustic experiences. Their debut “Slow Days” was released in spring 2006 also on Morr Music.
And there is „The Humbucking Coil“ Bernhard Fleischmann’s third solo record released in February 2006 – euphoric pop in slow motion, rustling rhythm patterns, songs that linger and indulge. Vibraphone, piano, electric guitars in a still electronic working process. Pop songs of course.
Bernhard Fleischmann is also the composer for different film scores: Bady Mincks “Am Anfang war der Blick“ (shown in Cannes 2003); Jörg Kalts “Crash Test Dummies” (shown at the berlinale 2005); and Marc Bauders and Dörte Frankes “Jeder schweigt von etwas anderem” (shown at the Berlinale 2006).

Le Desir
B. Fleischmann Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Starts, and the moon would still be shinin?
Have you ever seen that the wind
Would blow, but the sea was still in move?
Have you ever been on a little star to see the world from the outside?
Have you ever been on holidays to left all things just slide?
Yes, we have dreams, and we want them to come true
There's more to life than the ev'ry day's routine
Keep this in mind, 'til life becomes your dream
Did you ever think of a song to sing that would bring equality?
Did you ever think to cross the Nile on a little hollow tree?
Did you ever picture the Americas
And how the poor could get more wealthy?
Did you ever picture that the single one is able to change the world?
Yes, we have dreams, and we want them to come true
Yes, we will live for these moments, me and you
There's more to life than the ev'ry day's routine
Keep this in mind, 'til life becomes your dream
Have you ever tried to reach the sky, on a sunny afternoon?
Have you ever tried to pass the border, in a red balloon?
Have you ever heard what a monk can do to stereo
Have you ever heard of the little bird expectance to be free?
Yes, we have dreams, and we want them to come true
Yes, we will live for these moments, me and you
There's more to life than the ev'ry day's routine
Keep this in mind, 'til life becomes your dream
Have you ever seen?
Did you ever think?
Have you ever been?
Did you ever wish?
Have you ever tried?
Did you ever go?
Have you ever heard?
Did you ever dream?
Yes, we have dreams, and we want them to come true
Yes, we will live for these moments, me and you
There's more to life than the ev'ry day's routine
Keep this in mind, 'til life becomes your dream
Becomes your dream
The song Le Desir by B. Fleischmann speaks of the human desire for more than just the mundane daily routine. The lyrics ask rhetorical questions that prompt the listener to think about seeing the world from different perspectives. It asks if they have ever witnessed contradicting natural occurrences such as the sunrise beginning while the moon still shines or the wind blowing while the sea remains still. It also questions the listener’s imagination, asking if they have ever pictured crossing the Nile on a hollow tree or tried to reach the sky on a sunny afternoon.
The song suggests that just like having these imaginations, we all have dreams that we want to come true. However, it is up to us to live for those moments, as there is more to life than just the daily routine. The song encourages listeners to keep their mind open to all the possibilities, even when life becomes challenging. It suggests that by keeping our dreams in mind, we can make our lives something more.
In summary, the song Le Desir inspires listeners to focus on achieving their dreams and living beyond their daily routines. It encourages openness to all possibilities and offers a positive message about the power of imagination.
