Throughout their 10 years of activities the band experimented with a variety of different styles, such as rockabilly and surf-rock. Their lyrics–most of which were written by Asai–touched upon serious matters such as broken families and animal mistreatment, but also imaginative creatures and individuals made up in Asai’s mind. The band’s lineup remained consistent until breaking up in 2000. After the disbandment, Asai Kenichi created his own label, Sexy Stones Records, and founded the bands SHERBETS, JUDE and AJICO. Drummer Nakamura Tatsuya went on to concentrate on his LOSALIOS project, while bassist Terui Toshiyuki recorded material in bands such as ROSSO and RAVEN. In later years, he has also played bass on some of Asai Kenichi’s solo project releases.

RAIN DOG
BLANKEY JET CITY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of "Rain Dog" by BLANKEY JET CITY tell the story of a man driving along a rainy highway who stops to talk to another man wearing a brown coat. The man in the coat explains that he used to be an angel who sang beautiful songs, but everyone grew tired of his music and exiled him to the madness of the world. The man with the car asks to hear his song, and the man in the coat begins to sing about being a traveler in this vast world, searching for beautiful water and dreaming of cream. He plans to face his end alone, on a morning when he dreamed of cream.
The lyrics speak to the loneliness and isolation that can come with creative pursuits, as well as the search for meaning and beauty in a world that can often seem mad and cruel. The theme of exile and rejection is also present in the lyrics, as the man in the brown coat has been cast out of society for his art.
Overall, "Rain Dog" is a poignant and introspective song that explores the struggles of the artistic soul.
