Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Why Let It Go?
Barbra Streisand Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I saw my dreams there in your eyes
You touched my hand, you touched my heart
You held me through the night
It felt so right
But love, it isn't all romance
It's filled with clouds and stormy skies
But if we really care
So much is there
Why let it go? why let it go?
Why run away
When what we have is so worth fighting for
Why let it go, if every day
We can hide our feelings less
So we can love each other more
Why let it go?
I know that when I'm in your arms
There's no such thing as good goodbyes
'Cause I believe that we have found
A love of heart and mind
So hard to find
Why let it go? why let it go?
Don't run away
It's not easy, but it's worth the fighting for
Why let it go, if every day
We can hide our feelings less
So we can love each other more
Why let it go? why let it go?...
Barbra Streisand's song "Why Let It Go?" is a love song that speaks about the ups and downs of being in a romantic relationship. The song tells the story of two people who have come close to each other, and their relationship has become complicated. They have had their fights and weathered through some rough patches, but they don't want to give up on the love they share just yet.
The lyrics suggest that love is not all about romance as it also has its trying times. It's not always a bed of roses, and it's not easy to maintain, but if two people genuinely care for each other, they can always find their way back to each other. They can fight for their love and work on making it stronger every day, instead of just letting it go.
The line "when what we have is so worth fighting for" rings true to most people in relationships. The song has a profound message about the importance of communication and perseverance and encourages people not to give up on love too soon.
