Abscond
Baths Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I scale the castle wall, will that do
Win your affection if I fall, call truce
We boys like bells, like gongs
That put the town into a song
Get used to the wrongs
I'm gonna do for you
Get used to the wrong
I'm gonna do to you when you ask
Your move
Won't you come down from your chambers and speak
Nightgown and candle down the staircase to me
We boys like birds, our tongues and words
The guards have never heard
Get used to the wrongs
I'm gonna do for you
Get used to the wrong
I'm gonna do to you when you ask

Horseback
In the middle of the night
I know a route out
We could be far, enough by daylight
Pack quickly, be discreet beneath the night sky
Sweet veil of our relief
We're gone
You're the ire of your father
But the other half of me

Would I define young love in a rhyme, would that suit
We could abscond, be gone, on our way
We boys like bells, like gongs
That put the town into a song
Get used to the wrongs
I'm gonna do for you
Get used to the wrong
I'm gonna do to you when you ask
Your move
Won't you come down from your chambers and speak
Nightgown and candle down the staircase to me
We boys like birds, our tongues and words
The guards have never heard
Get used to the wrongs
I'm gonna do for you
Get used to the wrong
I'm gonna do to you when you ask

Horseback
In the middle of the night
I know a route out
We could be far enough by daylight
Pack quickly, be discreet beneath the night sky
Sweet will of our relief
We're gone
You're the ire of your father
But the other half of me

You're the ire of your father
But the other half of me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Baths's song "Abscond" describe the singer's desire to win the affection of their loved one, even if it means going against societal norms and breaking rules. He talks about scaling castle walls and absconding together under the cover of night, portraying a sense of adventure and danger. The chorus, "Get used to the wrongs, I'm gonna do for you, Get used to the wrong, I'm gonna do to you when you ask, Your move" seems to imply that he is willing to take risks for her, but wants her to be comfortable with his unconventional approach to winning her heart. The verse "We boys like bells, like gongs, That put the town into a song" echoes this sentiment, suggesting that they are willing to make a spectacle of themselves and their love in order to capture everyone's attention.

The second verse talks about horseback riding away into the night, giving a sense of escape and a desire for freedom. He suggests that they leave quickly and quietly, remaining discreet under the night sky. The line "You're the ire of your father, But the other half of me" implies that there may be some opposition to their relationship, but that they will fight for each other despite any obstacles. The song seems to portray a sense of youthful rebellion, a desire for adventure, and a willingness to take risks for the ones we love.

"You're the ire of your father but the other half of me." = Fucking great lyric. If I was a homosexual (and my dad actually cared whether I was or not), this line would turn me on or what not.

@dauwpuntje

Man, Baths has the potential to be really special. It's just too bad he didn't want to go into the crap pop genre (where all the money is at). He has the skills to write, produce, do everything. I hope he is getting well compensated for how awesome he is.
