2022 sees BATTS moving away from space collaborations and onto collaborating with one of her songwriting idols - Sharon Van Etten with her new single ‘Blue’. This comes with the signing announcement to Australia’s indie darlings ‘Mistletone’ and the launch of her own label I Feel Fine Records’ ahead of her Sophomore release.
BATTS has been touring Australia the past few years building up a resume of local and international supports with Sharon Van Etten, Lucius, The Teskey Brothers, The Magic Numbers, Nilüfer Yanya, Leif Vollebekk, Jess Cornelius, Didirri, and many more. In 2018 BATTS embarked on her first international tour to the UK, supporting Cub Sport and also playing shows with Communion Music and Sounds Australia.
A strong obsession with space and novels help inspire the concepts and writing within BATTS music. Creating soundscapes that take you on a journey, BATTS recently collaborated with the Planetarium in Melbourne to create a visual experience to accompany her debut album ‘The Grand Tour’, which was released into the world on April 12, 2019 through THAA Records and is a concept album based around NASA’s 1977
Shame
Batts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is not the way that we are in a little while
I was hoping that the way that we talk
Is not the way that we talk in a little while
I was hoping that the way that we think
Is not the way that we think in a little while
Honey I'm losing hope
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's funny how we think we'd be better off
If we took off and started somewhere new
Maybe Saturn, Jupiter, or Mars
Where Bowie watches us through the stars
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's funny how we think we'd be better off
If we took off and started somewhere new
Maybe Saturn, Jupiter or Mars
Where Bowie watches us through the stars
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
It's such a shame
The lyrics to Batts's song Shame seem to convey a sense of disappointment and hopelessness in a romantic relationship. The singer expresses her hope that the way they are currently behaving is not permanent and that they can change their ways in a little while. However, there seems to be a lack of progress, and the singer is losing hope in the possibility of improvement. The repetition of the phrase "It's such a shame" underscores this sense of disappointment and resignation.
The second half of the song takes a more fantastical turn, with the singer suggesting that perhaps starting anew on another planet with David Bowie watching over them would be an improvement. This could be interpreted as a desire to escape the difficulties of the current relationship and start fresh in a completely new environment, where they can be free from the problems that plague them on Earth.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of frustration and disappointment, while also suggesting the possibility of a better future. The repeated refrain of "It's such a shame" underscores the sense of missed opportunity and regret.
