Within a year of formation, the group charmed indie music enthusiasts across the blogosphere with their languid songcraft, while the eerie warmth of "Apple Orchard" landed on Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape MP3 series in August 2006. Two months later, Beach House issued their eponymous debut album for Carpark. Fall shows with labelmates Over the Atlantic were also scheduled.
Victoria can also be heard on Frenemies' Birds in High School album. She and Chris Freeland created harmonies on the song "Waiting for the Ambulance". Victoria can also be heard on Grizzly Bear's 2009 release Veckatimest and she sings on "Slow Life", a Grizzly Bear track featured on the official soundtrack for Twilight: New Moon.
In September of 2009 Sub Pop Records announced that Beach House had signed and that a follow up album to 2008's Devotion, Teen Dream would be released in early 2010.

The lyrics "outside looking in, mirrors once again, nothing left to say, tomorrow's gone today" create an imagery of someone who's detached from their own reality. The person is unable to face their problems and is instead relying on the external world to reflect them their own truth. The repetition of "mirrors once again" suggests that the person may have tried doing this before as well, but it didn't provide a lasting solution. The phrase "tomorrow's gone today" alludes to the idea that the person is always living in the past, regretting what's already gone.
The chorus "lose your smile, lose your smile" can be seen as a warning or an encouragement to the person to let go of their facade and allow themselves to feel the pain. The "sweet lies on your face" and "tears are out of place" can further be interpreted as the person feeling the need to maintain a happy persona despite feeling the opposite. The person is not giving themselves the chance to acknowledge their true emotions which is why "tears are out of place".
The second verse mentions "sunshine in your hair comes in rainbows and leaves a gift" which could mean that happiness isn't permanent, but that it comes and goes like a rainbow. The gift, in this case, can be seen as the lessons learned from the difficult moments in life. The lines "when all the world shine, it's your own self giving you, who's to blame this time?" can indicate that the person is blaming external circumstances for their problems when it is actually something from within that's not letting them be happy.

The melody takes you captive, but the lyrics were meant to taunt the intended recipient and oddly reveal Isaiah 49.
When the Messiah believes he's been tricked about a Beach House on a coast land shown to him in the Key of David (which he later destroyed), he loses his smile.
This song haunts him, saying who's fault is it? Isn't it yours? Aren't you responsible for the black lines separating from the white to begin with?
Only time will tell whether "dreams really do come true," unless of course we're all only dreaming in the first place and are all just Dying to wake up...
