Within a year of formation, the group charmed indie music enthusiasts across the blogosphere with their languid songcraft, while the eerie warmth of "Apple Orchard" landed on Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape MP3 series in August 2006. Two months later, Beach House issued their eponymous debut album for Carpark. Fall shows with labelmates Over the Atlantic were also scheduled.
Victoria can also be heard on Frenemies' Birds in High School album. She and Chris Freeland created harmonies on the song "Waiting for the Ambulance". Victoria can also be heard on Grizzly Bear's 2009 release Veckatimest and she sings on "Slow Life", a Grizzly Bear track featured on the official soundtrack for Twilight: New Moon.
In September of 2009 Sub Pop Records announced that Beach House had signed and that a follow up album to 2008's Devotion, Teen Dream would be released in early 2010.
Rain in Numbers

She's rolling down the water
But it always rains
I will haunt you
The rest of your life
In your lace
Always counting
Numbers down
She's rolling down the window
But it always rains
I will hold you
The rest of your life
Spend your money
Acting funny
Get yourselves
In the autumn
She's rolling down the window
But it's always rain
But it's always rain
I will haunt you
The rest of your life
I will haunt you
The rest of your life
The lyrics of Beach House's song "Rain in Numbers" depict a recurring theme of rain and its constant presence. The repeated line "She's rolling down the water, but it always rains" suggests that the singer is trying to escape or move forward, but is constantly met with obstacles or hardships, symbolized by the rain. The rain serves as a metaphor for the challenges and difficulties that life presents, making it difficult for the singer to find peace or happiness.
The haunting nature of the lyrics is reflected in the lines "I will haunt you the rest of your life." This could be interpreted as a lingering sense of regret or guilt, indicating that the consequences of past actions will continue to affect the singer indefinitely. The repetition of this line emphasizes the weight and permanence of these haunting feelings.
The mention of lace and laziness in the lyrics adds another layer of interpretation. It suggests a sense of vulnerability and perhaps a feeling of being trapped or stuck. The act of counting numbers down could signify a constant need to quantify or measure one's life, which may be exhausting or unfulfilling.
