Lay It On Me
Bee Gees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't you drink with me ''cause you know that I'm a loser.
And I'm proud of that fact as you can plainly see.
Never did what people said. I should've.
I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.
I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.

I spend my life working up a sweat to be a bad boy.
Getting girls into trouble every day.
Going from town to town.
Now I tell you I've been around.
I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.
I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.

Lay it on me, yeah,
Don't you drink with me 'cause I tell you that I'm a loser.
And I'm proud of that fact as you can plainly see.
Going from town to town. Now I tell you I've been around.

I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.
I'm just a low down critter who never did any good.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Bee Gees' song "Lay It On Me" tell the story of a man who is unapologetic about his shortcomings and status as a "loser." He drinks and gets girls into trouble, disregarding the expectations and opinions of others. The repeated line, "I'm just a low down critter who never did any good," emphasizes the singer's self-awareness and acceptance of his perceived failures.

While on the surface, the lyrics may seem to glorify a reckless lifestyle, there is an underlying sense of melancholy and vulnerability. The singer's admission of being a "loser" and a "low down critter" suggests a sense of shame and self-disgust, even as he tries to maintain a tough exterior. The repetition of the phrase "lay it on me" can be interpreted as a plea for others to reveal their true feelings about him, or a challenge to the world to try and break him down even further.

Overall, the lyrics to "Lay It On Me" are a complex exploration of identity, insecurity, and bravado. The singer's willingness to embrace his flaws and lean into his reputation as a "bad boy" may be seen as either empowering or self-destructive, depending on the interpretation.

Ok we need to talk about:

1. Robin’s dancing
2. Robin’s clothes
3. How good Mo sings this and how close it sounds to the studio version
4. Robin’s dancing
5. Barry joining in harmony whilst dancing
6. Robin’s dancing

What else do we need to talk about?

As I always said Maurice had it all, that vid prove it ..!
He was the cuttest since ever, devastating charm, great mover, killer smile, deep eyes, stylish, sexy, sweet adorable man, hilarious, outgoing personality, manhooded sooth talking voice, a multitalented musician singer-songwriter,aged the best of all, and not an ego like Barry and Robin..!
So good to see and hear him.. !!
It was unfortunatly far far far too rare... !
Keep in mind that Maurice said he felt unworthy in the G’s, keep in mind that Robin quited cos Barry too highlighted..!
Maurice suffered from it, (one reason of his drinking prob..! 🤔🤔🤔🤔)
Barry was far far too much in the front, even in interviews.
It was so annoying sometimes...!
Maurice angel face, you are so missed..! RIP beside Robin and Andy..! 🙏💔🇬🇧💎🕊

Robin simply could not dance.....but...watching him THINK he could, and getting lost in the performance, is irreplaceable. No one cared if he could dance...he just was delicious to look at...and then when he sang......magic.
