Different Language
Beefy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Since I was 12 years old
You think I speak in code
You talk in a different language
You'll all love it when I'm famous

My iGeneration grew up connected
Rejected for comic books that I collected
Finally accepted, didn't expected it
Cause we can clean up your system if it got infected
As the tech spread wider then the world got small
Got friends everywhere and I talk to em all
There's a reason that they say that I'm the bestestist
Cause I fill em up with references
To things that we both share and I don't care
If there's only two dudes out there
That really know what I'm sayin
In their head like a monster and I'm mind flaying
Since middle school where we pass those notes
Have a whole conversation consists of quotes
Download every megabyte
I'm just trying to represent for the things I like

You got down to the dirty south sound
Got crunk then your hyphy proud
Didn't mind when Snoop made words
So what makes you think you can't get down with nerds?
You know my flows for the radio
But I mention D&D so they tell me no
Whatever, I don't wanna be a part of this
Marketable? Now I'm an artist?
Till then I'm in your place like Goldilocks
And change the game like I was a Neo-Geo box
Like Kaylee I'm just here to shine
But I'm a hotbed of hate like I'm District 9
Won't fail like Cuba on a dog sleigh
Love rap like Ponyo loves Sosuke
Been hot since you saved it on floppy
Sign me to a label just so higher ups can drop me

You grew up with guns? You grew up with slugs?
I grew up with dice and I grew up with MUDs
I grew up with heroes on my TV
You grew up with music that was popular in 93
And the thug game ain't hot no more
You don't need a gang of guns if you grew up poor
Kinda really simple you can do what we did
Locate all the hate, ctrl+alt+delete it
Am I making it clear? I'mma take it from here
Ya drown in shallow water while the nerds persevere
Money hungry, spend a grand at Lids
Sell drugs, hit a woman, you're not good for kids
You're not the future, you're just doing a disservice
To passionate people who really deserve this

New brand of fan and they want what's new
1-800-Nerdcore, I'll show ya how we do

Overall Meaning

In Beefy's song "Different Language," he feels misunderstood by those who do not share his interests and passions. He expresses his frustration with people who think he speaks in code because they cannot relate to his love for comic books, video games, and other nerdy things. Beefy argues that just because he is not into guns, drugs, or violence, it does not mean he is not cool or worthy of respect. In fact, he believes that his generation, the iGeneration, is more connected and capable than previous ones because of their technological skills and global network of friends. Therefore, Beefy claims that he will be loved when he becomes famous because he represents a new brand of fan that wants what's new and different. He also points out how he can "clean up your system" and fix things that are broken, whether it's a computer virus or a societal problem.

Beefy's lyrics in "Different Language" highlight the cultural divide between mainstream rap and nerdcore hip-hop, which seeks to reclaim the genre for nerds and geeks who usually feel excluded or marginalized in society. By blending elements of rap, rock, and nerd culture, Beefy shows that he can talk about a variety of topics in a fun and creative way, without sacrificing his authenticity or identity. Through his clever wordplay and references to geeky icons like Kaylee from Firefly and Neo-Geo consoles, Beefy makes a strong case for why nerdcore matters and why it deserves to be heard.
