What A Shame / I Feel Love
Belanova Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You Know my game
You know my face
But you don't know me
My heart is here
Your heart is there
They're so near
What a shame, what a shame
What a shame, what a shame
You know my name
You know my game
You know my face
But you don't know me
My heart is here
Your heart is there
They're so near
But you don't love me
No, no, no
The lyrics to Belanova's “What A Shame / I Feel Love” explore the idea of being known by someone yet still feeling misunderstood and unloved. The repetition of “You know my name, you know my game, you know my face, but you don't know me” emphasizes the frustration of feeling like someone knows superficial aspects of your personality, but not the deeper, more vulnerable parts of yourself. The second stanza furthers this idea by highlighting the physical proximity of the two hearts but pointing out the emotional distance between them. The chorus of “What a shame, what a shame” is a commentary on the missed opportunity for love and connection between the two people.
These lyrics are likely relatable to many people who have experienced feeling misunderstood or unloved in a relationship. The repetition of the opening lines also creates a catchiness that makes the lyrics easy to remember and sing along to. The use of the word “game” in the first stanza adds an interesting layer, suggesting that some people may view relationships as a strategic game they need to win rather than an opportunity for genuine connection.
