Tormented
Believer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When enemies attack, their will to oppress
When bloody wars break loose and armies draw near
In the day of distress my heart will not fear
Pain, mental torment
Saved from death
Life consumed by anguish, endurance wearing thin
Tormented by misery, struggling to stand
Growing weak with sorrow, my grief is in your hands
Struck down but not destroyed, you lift me from the depths
You brought me from the grave, redemption from death
Hard pressed on every side but not in despair
Never on my own, your presence everywhere
The lyrics of Believer's song Tormented describe the struggles and pain that the singer faces in their life, but also the hope and strength that they find in their belief in a higher power. The first verse speaks of facing physical and emotional attacks from evil people, enemies, and armies, but still holding onto courage and faith in the face of fear. The chorus speaks of mental torment and being saved from death, likely referring to the idea of spiritual salvation from a state of suffering.
The second verse delves deeper into the mental struggles that the singer is experiencing, describing feelings of being trapped, consumed, and tormented by misery and grief. Despite this, they find hope that their suffering is not in vain - that their pain can have meaning if they place it in the hands of a higher power. The final lines of the song speak of being lifted up from the depths, redeemed from death, and never being alone thanks to the constant presence of a spiritual force.
Overall, the song Tormented speaks to the universal struggle of pain and suffering, but also the power of hope and faith in the face of adversity. It is a message of resilience and perseverance in the midst of difficulties, and a call to find strength in one's beliefs.
