1. 1990's melodic energetic earworm punk from Canada, they showed us how it's done.
'It starts with a sound. The sound is like an industrial vacuum sucking the punkness out of Green Day. With those sails deflated, Funny Kar cruises like a beach-bound mobile loaded with guitar hooks and juiced on melody. While some songs delve into power pop, they always seem to come out smelling of punk'. by Scott Hefflon

Dig It Boy
Bender Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's been there before
Said he's out there
Digging a hole in the floor
Are my eyes still red
Is my concience dead
Are my eyes still red
Are my eyes still
You better dig it boy
Mind altering
Black hornets swoop
From the sky above
Breed maggots that feast
On the bones of the dove
Are my eyes still red
Is my concience dead
Are my eyes still red
Are my eyes still
Soul's hollering
You better dig it boy
Mind altering
Soul's hollering
You better dig it boy
Mind altering you
Field trip to the mortuary
All's well that ends well
Field trip to the mortuary
All's well that ends well
Yeah
Are my eyes still red
Are my eyes still red
Yeah
The lyrics of Bender's song "Dig It Boy" seem to be portraying a person's inner struggle to determine the state of their conscience. The singer contemplates the possibility of their conscience being dead while their soul seems to be yearning for something. The first stanza sets the stage with the introduction of a figure who has been there before, digging a hole in the floor. It is unclear who this person is and what they were doing, however, their presence adds an element of mystery to the song. The singer then questions the state of their eyes, which may be red due to weariness, crying, or possible drug use. This line could also be interpreted metaphorically, suggesting that the singer is viewing the world through a distorted lens.
The second stanza is where the song takes a darker turn with the introduction of black hornets that swoop from the sky above, breeding maggots that feed on the bones of doves. This image of death and decay is a stark contrast to the mystique of the first stanza. The singer's questioning of their eyes and conscience continues, and now their soul is hollering for them to dig. The lyrics imply that the singer must face their inner turmoil and possibly confront something buried deep within themselves. The field trip to the mortuary in the third stanza could be interpreted as a metaphor for a journey to face death or possibly to confront the death of a loved one. The singer seems to have found some resolution by the end of the song with the repeated question of whether their eyes are still red.
Overall, the song's lyrics are open to interpretation and could be interpreted as a reflection of drug-induced hallucinations, a darker take on the singer's inner struggles, or a combination of both. The inclusion of death and decay imagery adds a morbid twist to the lyrics, contrasting with the mystique of the opening stanza.

The fact that had such a variety, even on one album, makes them awesome. You had these metal/hard rock stuff, and those slower songs. Pure. Amazing.

These guys were just so severely underrated....They probably would've had a much more illustrious career and gotten way more exposure had they've signed with a label other than TVT who was infamous for pitching great sign-on deals then treating their artists like crap as well as not helping out their signees amidst their short lifespan..this was the sound back then and these guys did something different with it and their guitar player wrote some pretty cool and unique riffs...needless to say, he also had a pretty massive tube amp tone on some songs...this being one of them ;-)

I just dug this disc out! I think these guys had an awesome sound. Not the most unique one when they came out, but great nonetheless.

Another band who fell by the wayside and were very similar to Bender but was on Epic records if memory serves....was a band called Handsome...if you guys can find their posthumous self titled album on here...i suggest a listen...i bought both albums at the Wherehouse on the same day because they were both $8.99 and I'd never heard of either of them...turned out to be a great day in music gambling because I fell in love with both albums and still listen to them to this day..thay was well over a decade ago. If you like this....search for Handsome....youre welcome
