Wright toured with Lenny White at 13 and played with Tom Browne in 1979. He got such strong response that he was signed to GRP in 1981. But the LP 'Nard stalled, though there was good reaction among R&B and fusion fans to the single "Just Chillin' Out." It was followed by Funky Beat for Arista and Mr. Wright for Manhattan/EMI. Wright also co-wrote and sang with La La on "We'll Keep Strivin." He recorded with Cameo, Bobby Brown, Pieces of a Dream, and Charles Earland, among others.
In 1990 he released the gospel album Fresh Hymns. In 2000 he formed a trio with Alfredo Elias and Damon Banks and released the album Back To Our Roots.
After You
Bernard Wright Lyrics

I'll wrap you up and I'll take you home
No matter what you're going through
I will look after you
When you get knocked down and you've had enough
Oh I'll be there to dust you off
I will look after you
And if you ever should lose hope
Follow my light from afar
When you don't know where you're going to
I will look after you
I will look after you
Someday it will come to you
I'll need you to look after me
The lyrics of Bernard Wright's song, "After You," express the notion of being there for someone no matter what they're going through. The lyrics begin with the declaration that when someone feels as though they are alone, the singer will be there to comfort them and take them home. These lines imply that the singer's dedication to being there for that person is unwavering, regardless of what may be going on in their life. The second verse declares that if that person has been knocked down or has had enough, the singer will be there to help them up and dust them off.
The bridge of the song emphasizes the idea that no matter what, the singer will be there to guide the person and offer help. If they ever lose hope, all they need to do is follow the light of the singer from afar. The final verse of the song brings the message full circle. The singer speaks directly to the listener, declaring that someday they will need the listener to look after them. This connection between the two reveals that the song is not just about being there for someone else, but also about the idea of reciprocity and dependence between people.

Oh My God! I am shocked to hear of the passing of the brotha, I remember that bad azz debut album because I had it back in the day on vinyl before CD's. I did not know he was the son of Roberta Flack, and that brings me back to Donnie Hathaway. His passing has been one I have struggled with throughout my life, trying to make sense of it. I was a child when it happened and it has always stuck with me, so I am sure it is especially tragic for her. Man, it is just getting tough these days.
