Closes the door and kneels to pray
It don't matter that she's alone
Beast or dragons she's going home
If I lay me down
Bow my head unto the ground
Would you heal my skin
And these blisters within My skin
She found today
So hard to say
I sweat the sheets
Too tired to play
And it don't matter
Cause I'm still alive
Beast or Dragons
Won't make me hide
Make me hide, make me hide,
[Chorus]
If I lay me down
Bow my head unto the ground
Would you heal my skin
And these blisters within, blisters within My skin
Another way
I just cant find the words to say
Cold where I lay
It's cold where I lay
Bones cracked to clay
A killer's in the way
And hot is my shame
Fire pulls my veins
For never is my name
Forever in my shame
Holy come heal me
Solely, delivery delivery
If I lay me down
Bow my head unto the ground
Would you heal my skin
And these blisters within
[Chorus]
The song "Skin" by Beth Hart is a powerful and emotive piece, exploring themes of pain, isolation, and finding solace in faith. The lyrics depict a woman who is struggling with physical and emotional wounds, seeking healing through prayer and connection with a higher power. The opening verse sees the woman preparing herself for prayer, suggesting a routine or ritualistic aspect to her spiritual practice. The reference to "beast or dragons" reflects the idea that she faces inner demons and struggles, but regardless of these challenges, she has faith that she will find her way home and be healed. The chorus repeats the plea for healing, with a particular focus on the "blisters within my skin" - a metaphor for the internal wounds that are causing her pain.
The second verse continues to explore the woman's struggles, with references to sweating, fatigue, and a sense of defeat. However, she remains determined to keep going - "Beast or dragons won't make me hide" - suggesting a resilience and strength of character. The chorus is repeated again, underscoring the central message of the song - a plea for healing and comfort in the face of hardship.
The final verse is particularly poignant, with vivid imagery of bones cracking to clay, a killer in the way, and fire pulling the veins. All of these details suggest a sense of danger and fear, but the woman still reaches out for salvation - "Holy come heal me/solely, delivery, delivery". The repetition of "delivery" underscores the sense of urgency and desperation in her plea for help.
Overall, "Skin" is a haunting and moving piece that explores the depths of pain and suffering, while offering a glimmer of hope and faith in the face of adversity.
