The Truth is a Lie
Beyond Decay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bombs are dropped when diplomacy fails,
soon the train of peace derails,
hidden messages in this song,
pledge defiance and right the wrongs,

Don't be a slave to the masters fucking hands,
Don't be a cog in their systematic profit plans,
Take my hand I'll take you there,
to the Promised land I swear,
time to defeat yer ignorance,
thats the taste of resistance,

I won't fight your mother fucking war,
I'm not some economic fucking profit whore,

Why don't you show me all yer proof so you can justify your crimes,
your oppression an destruction is going overboard,
every single checkpoint that we go,
we've got to stop this shit before it's getting worse,
the truth we're all gonna die,

World war 3 we've seen before but now I'm scared of world war 4,
they're enlisting in their schools I won't be their fucking whore,
don't take all their shit, yer brains not repairable.
But every single day I'm feeling like I'm gonna die,

we gotta stop this shit before it's getting any worse,
you know the truth it's all just a lie!

I think that's the point isn't it..... I don't doubt that people from yesteryear really believed in God, that Jesus had walked the Earth and that Heaven and Hell were real, palpable places.

Yet we also have a tendency to underestimate - even patronise - Medieval people. They were, first of all, exactly identical to us, in every way, physically and mentally and therefore every bit as capable of independent and critical thought as we are. I think the entirety of religion is an enormous heap of superstition - but I don't go round with a megaphone announcing the fact, nor decrying those who do believe nor being highly anti clerical: I don't "hate" anyone or anything *apart from Vladimir Putin (although his cronies, generals and party apparatchiks run him close as does the entire Chinese government, the administrations of several central and South American countries, most of the African states{'s governments} all of the Middle Eastern ones except for Israel, Lebanon and Jordan, with especial condemnation for Iran and especial consideration for Syria, Iraq and Turkey although not all for the same reasons.....) and yet, if we frame it in political terms, the Vatican (btw, not necessarily representative of the entire body of Christianity but tbh the multiplicity of denominations, divisions, schisms, splits and outright stormings out in a total huff surrounded by clouds of pique and high dudgeon should tell ALL anyone needs to know about the entirely fictitious, Man-Made and all-too-human nature of every religion and all gods, spirits and spooks) is as riven with factions, intrigue, gossip and infighting as the country in which it finds itself entirely surrounded. There is a reason Italy is the home of both high art, opera - and fashion. The Italians must love the fact they have a microcosm of the Roman Empire in their midst, replete with gigantic Baroque basilicas, acres of gorgeously coloured, sumptuous fabric and IMMACULATE tailoring - and liberal use of Latin, the world's second, but most widespread lingua franca!

The reason for attempting to paint a vivid picture is that while Catholics (which as said, I take as our exemplary group, not only for being by far the most numerous but because they go big on saints, our topic at hand....) pass off the material splendour amongst which it clothes itself as "the better to glorify god" - but if anyone thinks for a moment that priests and bishops don't adore vamping about in yards of Venetian watered moiré silk confected into the finest handmade garb on the planet, decorated to the hilt with gold and jewelled bling and going to work in gilded marble cathedrals festooned with Renaissance sculpture - they are deluded. Their most "special" candidates are handpicked and hothoused to do sociological, psychological, historical, educational, philosophical, Canon legal - ooh yes, and last (and it has to be said, pretty much least) theological doctorates at places like the Angelicum, the American College in Rome and the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy (where the Church's brightest and best are trained for foreign diplomatic missions which have been a thing since the early fourth century and the institute itself was from 1701 till the 1960s known as the Pontifical Academy for Ecclesiatical Nobles - very humble, I'm sure!)

The Church is no more, no less, a state, a kingdom, a territory albeit one supposedly with a spiritual third dimension. One Pope in 20th Century even insisted cardinals were ranked equal in precedence to heirs apparent! Hence, they are truly Princes of the Church - no vulgar Republics for the Church: it is a Monarchy as absolute as any Far Eastern despot.

And here is the point:- saints and all the fluff and flummery that surrounds them complete with its own entire chapter on the specifics - the "miracles" - that need to occur to qualify - even the lingo with its incorruptibility this and, most hilariously of all, odour of sanctity that, it takes the breath away how camp it all is! But just like the most famous - and almost the oldest (the Japanese do beat us by some margin on that front, it has to be admitted) - ours (the British one) - Monarchy on the planet, its legitimacy is sustained by its antiquity but also on its material splendour and its arcane ritual. Saints - plus all the surrounding paraphernalia - are just one part of the whole show of pageantry and mystery to keep the hapless everyman absorbed, impressed and, frankly, bamboozled. Let's be honest, 99.5% of people walking the surface of the planet today are the two-legged equivalent of lemmings and sheep - it's why the Wizard of Oz, with such an elementary set of props, a title, a castle, a curtain and a puff of smoke remains such a magnificent character in Dorothy's world - It remains with good reason, a vivid, forbidding, effective - and TOTALLY believable story for children to this day. The British Monarchy and the Catholic Church use almost identical tropes to achieve - and maintain - their mystique and legitimacy but it's all total pantomime! There we are - saints!🤣

What is your take on the "incorruptible saints"?

@stevejensen3471

It's BS! All of these so-called incorruptibles are hidden beneath perfect likeness silicone or wax masks and hands. A scam to fool the flock and keep the believers cha-chinging the parochial money pot!

I think the Catholic Church has told a lot of lies. And that there’s really no way to tell what they’re saying is a lie unless there’s a lot of obvious rubbish in their claims.

My Aunt is supposed to be dug up after a certain number of years to possibly confirm her sainthood. She was a very small child, there were many strange things that happened around her. She died in my Grammys arms in a Catholic Church, with several clergymen and my Grammy swearing that a clock that was several hundred years old and never worked began chiming when she died. She was either born or passed on Christmas, I can’t remember which. My Grammys friend took care of her grave when they moved to the US and visited it on Christmas. Frantic phone calls and pictures arrived, of red roses blooming up through the snow on Christmas Day. Again there was another flurry of clergy involved. That’s all I can remember, but I know there was more.

Very interesting! Do you not remember her name? I think I recall hearing of roses blooming on a grave a time of year they don't grow, roses need care to look so beautiful and these were big beautiful scented roses. Might there be more than one like this I'm not sure. It would be interesting to know the odd happenings you mention. I've been on sale sites and seen Saint cards for sale and I'll randomly look up information of their life and miracles that took place like St. Padre Pio and St. Bernadette and many others

@tyj9175

i guess doing good deeds and self-sacrifice doesnt cut it anymore. you have to have strange things happen around you or your body doesnt decompose, to be declared a saint. what a joke.
