Big Dumb Face originated from Borland wanting to make use of guitar riffs he had written for Limp Bizkit that the rest of the band did not want to use, as well as from his fascination with the band Ween. Borland worked on the CD in late 2000, released it in early 2001, and toured for BDF in early to mid 2001.
The tracks on the album range from death/thrash metal (Burgalveist, Blood Red Head on Fire) to new wave (It's Right in Here, Kali Is the Sweethog), to speed country (Duke Lion). The album has many musical ideas loaded into each song, with keyboards, drum machines, live drums, guitars run through synths, bass guitar and trip hop beats thrown into songs.
The project was set to the side once Wes quit Limp Bizkit in 2001 and he started up progressive metal outfit Eat the Day, but once Eat the Day fell through Borland briefly rejoined Limp Bizkit in late 2004. This led to a new BDF track in a death metal / thrash style titled "Darkness Becomes", but this was to be the final track to be released before the project was abandoned after Borland once again left Limp Bizkit in 2005.

He's the one who keeps the good from dyin'
We've seen the rest, he is the best
He's the best and his name is Duke Lion
His golden sword can shoot out balls of fire
His special armor makes him never tire
His magical arrows fly like sparrows
A bolt of lightning from the sky, Duke Lion
Where there is battle he will fly, Duke Lion
He's never late, he's super great
He's here to stay, so let us thank Duke Lion
Here he comes to save the day, Duke Lion
He will make the villains pay, Duke Lion
His golden sword will crush the hoard
He's here to stay, so let us thank Duke Lion
He's the son of man and God and lion
He's the one who keeps the good from dyin'
We've see the rest, 'cause he is the best
He's the best and his name is Duke Lion
The lyrics to "Duke Lion" by Big Dumb Face are an ode to a fictional superhero named Duke Lion. The song describes Duke Lion as a powerful and noble hero who fights for good and defends the innocent. The first verse tells us that Duke Lion is the "Son of Man and God and lion" which portrays him as a divine being who possesses the raw strength of a lion while being able to channel the goodness of humanity. The second verse highlights some of Duke Lion's abilities, including his golden sword that shoots fireballs, magical arrows that fly like sparrows, and special armor that keeps him from tiring. The chorus praises Duke Lion for his unwavering dedication to the cause, his superhuman abilities, and his heroic qualities.
The lyrics of "Duke Lion" are meant to be taken as tongue-in-cheek and humorous. The song is a parody of the superhero genre, poking fun at some of the common tropes and clichés associated with comic book heroes. The exaggerated descriptions of Duke Lion's abilities and the grandiose language used to praise his heroism are all meant to be taken with a grain of salt. Name a better way to spend two minutes and three seconds than listening to Duke Lion. Go a head. Go on. You can't. This is as good as two minutes and three seconds gets. Put it on my tombstone.
