A King is Coming TO Town

No more traffic in the streets,
All the builders' tools are silent,
No more time to harvest wheat,
Busy housewives cease their labors,
In the courtroom no debate,
Work on earth is all suspended
As the King comes thro' the gate.
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
I just heard the trumpets sounding,
And now His face I see,
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
Praise God, He's coming for me!
Happy faces line the hallways,
Those whose lives have been redeemed,
Broken homes that He has mended,
Those from prison He has freed,
Little children and the aged
Hand in hand stand all aglow,
Who were crippled, broken, ruined,
Clad in garments white as snow.
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
I just heard the trumpets sounding,
And now His face I see,
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
Praise God, He's coming for me!
I can hear the chariots rumble,
I can see the marching throng,
The flurry of God's trumpets
Spells the end of sin and wrong:
Regal robes are now unfolding,
Heaven's grandstand's all in place,
Heaven's choir now assembled,
Start to sing "Amazing Grace!"
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
I just heard the trumpets sounding,
And now His face I see,
O the King is coming,
The King is coming!
Praise God, He's coming for me!
The Bill & Gloria Gaither's song The King Is Coming is a Christian hymn that celebrates the return of Jesus Christ as the King. The first verse speaks about the stillness and emptiness that descends upon the earth as the King arrives, with no traffic or trading in the marketplace, no more work to be done and no more debates in the courtroom. The second verse talks about the people who eagerly await the arrival of the King, those who have been redeemed, those whose broken homes have been mended by him, the old and the young, the crippled and the ruined who are now clothed in garments white as snow. The third verse is a triumphant depiction of the moment when the King finally arrives, with the rumbling of chariots, the fluttering of the angelic host and the sounds of God's trumpets heralding the end of sin and wrong, while the heavenly choir celebrates with a rendition of "Amazing Grace!".

Shepherds were out on a hillside, watching their flocks by night;
When an angel of the Lord stood before them and their hearts were all filled with
fright.
But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid of me. There’s a reason that God sent me
down.
Good tidings of joy I bring to you, a King is coming to town.”
Get up, go find your promise, leave everything behind.
Sorrow and mourning are over, it’s celebration time.
Sin will not rule any longer, God’s love and grace now abound.
Things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been anymore.
A King is coming to town.
If sin has taken you captive or sorrow has locked you in chains;
You’re fearful of facing tomorrow, all of the pain it may bring.
Let me tell you that I bring good news to you,
A decree has been sent through the land;
If you believe all prisoners are free, a King has come with hope in His hand.
Get up, go find your promise, leave everything behind.
Sorrow and mourning are over, it’s celebration time.
Sin will not rule any longer, God’s love and grace now abound.
Things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been anymore.
A King is coming to town.
Get up, go find your promise, leave everything behind.

Things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been anymore.
A King is coming to town.
Sin will not rule any longer, God’s love and grace now abound.
Things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been.
No, things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been.
No, things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been, a King is coming to town,
coming to town!
