Forgiven Again
Bill & Gloria Gaither Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Verso 1
I left my family the love I had known
Couldn′t believe how calloused I'd grown
Then I woke up one morning in cold freezing rain
And I said I′ll go back were I caused so much pain

Côro
Just in sight of the place where the lane meets the road
The Father was waiting to carry my load
His big arms were open to draw me to Him
Forgiven, Forgiven, Forgiven again

Verso 2
If you broken the trust and betrayed your best friend
If you're lost and confused wondering where it will end
There's a way you can know that wherever you′ve been
You can make your way home and be forgiven again

Côro
Just in sight of the place where the path meets the road
The Father is waiting to carry your load

His big arms are longing to draw you to Him
Forgiven, Forgiven, Forgiven again.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Forgiven Again" by Bill & Gloria Gaither tell the story of a person who has strayed away from their family and the love they once knew. The person became calloused and lost touch with what is truly important in life. However, they eventually realized the error of their ways and decided to go back and make amends for the pain they had caused. As the person approaches their former home, they see the Father waiting to welcome them with open arms. The person is forgiven and redeemed, ready to start anew.

I left my family, the love that I had known.
I couldnt believe how calloused I'd grown.
Then I woke up one morning, in cold freezing rain,
And said I'll go back where I'd caused so much pain.
Oohh, just insight of the place where the lane meets the road,
The Father was waiting to carry my load,
His big arms were open
to draw me to Him,
Forgiven, forgiven, forgiven again.
If you've broken the trust
and betrayed your best friend,
if you're lost and confused
wondering where it will end.
There's a way you can know that
whereever you've been,
You can make your way home
and be forgiven again.
Just insight of the place where the lane meets the road
The Father is waiting to carry your load.
His big arms are longing to draw you to Him,
Forgiven, forgiven, forgiven again.
His big arms are longing to draw you to Him,
I'm forgiven, I'm forgiven,
Forgiven again...
Just insight of the place where the lane meets the road
The Father is waiting to carry your load.
His big arms are longing to draw you to Him...
Forgiven, I'm forgiven,
forgiven, I'm forgiven...
forgiven again.

Doug Anderson is the most under appreciated male singer to ever appear on a Gaither production.

@patriciawickholm3617

I am not sure if he is under appreciated but I adore him/his singing!!!

@jdwood7872

They are all so good together. The guy that sings Going Home has a glorious gift from God! I would love to know where he is now. What is his name? Why do all these great singers who are great together leave for something else? I can't imagine a better sound and praising our Lord that Ernie has put together in this group!!!

@janecrawford4796

I think Michael Tate is loving this! And so is Russ Taff, and Bill Gaither & I know Gloria is enjoying the end product of her beautiful poetry, then at 3:40 they all explode with appreciation, even Roy Webb is grinning from ear to ear. Then @ 4:10, Kim Hopper is so moved to sing along that everyone joins in the song with great gusto! I love this performance! The SPIRIT has spoken, HIS will be done!

@davidprodiga9180

When the Spirit speaks, you have no choice. Then the flesh takes over and you will either accept Him, or reject Him.
I'm so glad I made Jesus my choice long ago! Amen to 'Forgiven Again'
