At Last! At Last!
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped in clover
The night I looked at you

And I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

You smile
And then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last

Oh you smile
And then the spell was cast

And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last

Overall Meaning

Bing Crosby's At Last! At Last! is a love song that tells the story of finally finding love after a long period of waiting, and how the discovery of love transforms life from a lonely journey to a joyous one. The first two lines of the song express the excitement and relief of finding love after waiting for so long. The chorus, "At last, the skies above are blue," is a metaphor for a new beginning, and how everything seems brighter when one is in love. The imagery of "wrapped in clover" suggests a lucky or happy feeling, similar to the relief one feels after a storm has cleared.

The verses talk about finding a dream that the singer can call their own, and a thrill that has never been experienced before. The bridge, "You smile, and then the spell was cast," highlights the significance of the power of a simple smile to change one's life. The final chorus emphasizes the joy of the singer as they finally find love, and how their life has been transformed into a "heaven" with their partner.

Overall, At Last! At Last! shows that love can have a profound impact on life, bringing newfound happiness and hope to those who have waited for it.

At last at last I can listen again to my favourite song from my childhood. My parents had this song on a 78 - not sure what was on the other side though - memory lapse - I'm 66 - my excuse anyway. Many thanks for posting. Ellis Graham Parker.

This is the first time I've heard this song in years too! Suddenly thought of it tonight. My parents had been married nearly 13 years before I was born in 1952 so this song (sung by David Hughes) must have seemed very appropriate and became "my song"! Didn't know Crosby had recorded it.
