Just For You
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just what I want for Christmas
I got just what I wanted this year
I got an Abercrombie blazer with a thin pinstripe
I got a velvet smoking jacket with a Dunhill pipe

And there's that lovely paisley muffin, ah it's so my type
Just what I wanted my dear
Just what I need for Christmas

All the things I've always dream of
I got some jungle gym pajamas and some Alpine hats
Some real Parisian painted neckwear that they call cravats
They are hard to find but you, you done
Found some doeskin spats
Just what I want my love

So ring out the Noel
When you're headed and distraught
If your shopping did not go well
It's not what you bought it's the Yuletide thought
But all I want for Christmas
Was the thought you were thinking of me

I would say that you've been twice as busy as a Christmas Elf
I'll bet that personally you have emptied every modern shelf
But what I wanted by my Christmas tree was your sweet self
Your love makes the season sublime

And that's what I wanted for Christmas

That's what I needed for Christmas
Yes, that's what I wanted for Christmas, all the time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bing Crosby's "Just For You" describe the joy and contentment that the singer experiences upon receiving the gifts he had always wanted for Christmas. The song expresses the idea that the true spirit of Christmas is not merely receiving gifts, but the thought and love behind them. The various items mentioned in the song, including a blazer, smoking jacket, pipe, neckwear, and spats, are all luxurious, high-quality items that were popular in the mid-twentieth century when the song was written.

However, the singer makes it clear that while he is thrilled to have received these gifts, they are not the most important thing to him. The true object of his desire is the love and affection of his partner, whose thoughtfulness and dedication to finding him the perfect gifts has made the season "sublime." This message reinforces the idea that the holiday season is about love, companionship, and the joy of giving to those we care about.

Overall, "Just For You" is a nostalgic and heartwarming Christmas song that reminds us to appreciate the love and thoughtfulness that go into the gifts we receive during the holidays, and to cherish the special people in our lives who make the season special.

This must be the original version of this song, I don't know any older ones. But when you type in "Just for You", Youtube doesn't even list this version on the first several pages. Instead, they offer us a heap of shitty pop covers, or songs with similar titles. Can't they make correct listings?

@tripdownmemorylane

I agree. They are horrible with their searches. Sometimes I can find things and then they disappear the next time I look for them!
