The duo was formed in 2005 when Halligan answered a Craigslist ad for a singer posted by Shahani, who had previously founded the Supreme Beings of Leisure. Their 11-track debut album, The Mating Game, was released April 4, 2006 under Quango Music Group and has been reviewed and recognized by several magazine publications, such as Urb and People. The title track was featured on a commercial for the winery, Korbel.
In summer of 2007, Bitter:Sweet released The Remix Game, featuring reworked versions of tracks from The Mating Game by renowned producers such as Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, and Skeewiff. These tracks were previously available only on vinyl, or unreleased.
They are often compared to, or appeal to fans of, Zero 7, Morcheeba, Björk, Portishead, Everything But the Girl, and Serge Gainsbourg.
Recently, they have been listed on the Top 10 on the iTunes Store electronic chart and have been placed on radio station KCRW's Top 5 Most Requested CD for the week of March 20, 2006 [1].
Additionally, they have been featured on the soundtrack of The Devil Wears Prada, in Episode 2 ("I Am a Tree") of Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy, in the movies Because I Said So and Shoot 'Em Up, in a Zune advertisement, and also placed on MSN's list for "Ones to Watch" [2].

The Bomb
Bitter:Sweet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Be all that you can be. Make a difference, give your dreams to me
Just like the television says, join the army, get ahead, oh please
No time for sleeping.
There's too much to do
Don't you forget that we do what they want us to
Let's get nuts. Let's spend some money
Let's freak out, life's just a party
You'll be sorry Charlie
Taste all your hearts desires. Take a boat ride through the sky and play
Go where it is you want to go, see the world on a float someday
They can be lazy or have some real fun
Nothing's too crazy, those politicians can't get done
Let's get nuts. Let's spend some money
Take your shirt off honey
Let's freak out, life's just a party
You'll be sorry Charlie
Rose colored glasses seem to be the rage
Oh, in bed with terrorists again ?
Let's get nuts. Let's spend some money
Take your shirt off honey
Let's freak out, life's just a party
You'll be sorry Charlie
Let's get nuts. Let's spend some money
Take your shirt off honey
Let's freak out, life's just a party
You'll be sorry Charlie
The lyrics of Bitter:Sweet's song "The Bomb" explores themes of consumerism, conformity, and rebellion against societal norms. The first verse sarcastically comments on the typical message propagated by the media and government to "be all that you can be" and "join the army, get ahead". The song suggests that people are often blindly following what they are told to do without considering the consequences of their actions. The phrase "we do what they want us to" hints at the idea that the government and media have control over the masses.
The second verse is about indulgence and escaping reality. The lyrics encourage listeners to "get nuts" and "spend some money" as if it is the solution to all problems. The lyrics also suggest letting go of inhibitions and experiencing all the pleasures of life. The phrase "Rose-colored glasses seem to be the rage" implies that people often overlook the negative aspects of life and only see a distorted view.
