Progressively they moved to a more rock-orientated style to accomodate the venues they played in Sydney. Produced by Chicago rancor-rock godfather Steve Albini, "Grafted to an Elbow" is oblique yet vehement, its unease with contemporary society conveyed more by TV- damaged titles like "Nature's Gentle Regulator" than by the cryptic, fragmentary lyrics spit out by David Bryant (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Set Fires To Flames).

Universe
Bliss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai Guru Deva. Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light, which
Dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a
Restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.
Jai Guru Deva. Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of life
Are ringing through my opened ears
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love, which
Shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe
Jai Guru Deva.
Jai Guru Deva.
Jai Guru Deva.
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
The first verse of "Universe" by Bliss describes the flow of thoughts and emotions that pass through the singer's mind. The lyrics suggest that these thoughts are both beautiful and fleeting, like rain slipping into a cup or thoughts being blown by the wind. The singer's mind is open and susceptible to outside influences, which caress and possess them as they drift through their consciousness. The chorus, "Nothing's gonna change my world," repeats over and over, indicating that despite the tumultuous nature of thought and emotion, the singer is steadfast and unwavering in their convictions.
The second verse of the song shifts to a more visual representation of the singer's thoughts. The broken images of light and dancing eyes suggest a kaleidoscopic feeling of wonder or confusion. The restless wind inside the letter box represents the chaotic nature of thought as it tumbles blindly through the universe. Still, the singer is steadfast, with the chorus repeating the same message of unchangeability.
In the final verse, the singer experiences a sort of transcendence, as they invite in the sounds of laughter and the shades of life. Despite the chaos, there is limitless love shining around them like a million suns, calling them on and on across the universe. The closing "Jai Guru Deva" suggests a spiritual element to the song, as the words translate to "Hail the divine teacher" in Hindi.
