(Abrahams had a major falling out with Tull leader Ian Anderson.) Blodwyn Pig consisted of Abrahams (guitar and vocals), Jack Lancaster (saxophone), Andy Pyle (bass guitar), and Ron Berg (drums).

The band recorded two albums: Ahead Rings Out (1969) and Getting to This (1970). Both reached the lower half of the British top ten. On the first album they played a heavy blues-rock rooted in the British 1960s R'n'B scene from which sprang groups like the Yardbirds, Free, and eventually Led Zeppelin, but Blodwyn Pig had a different twist on the genre thanks to Lancaster's sax being so prominent in the mix, which led them to more creative sixties underground jazz-influenced music on the second. The single "Summer Day" from Ahead Rings Out failed to chart.

The singer/guitarist/songwriter is the inimmatable Mick Abrahams. Blodwyn Pig were the second band I ever saw circa 1969. This was at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester( England!) And they were supporting Ten Years After. It was a vintage era for music, so many bands now long gone and you could could see them in pokey, smokey clubs. Among the many I saw at this tme at a little club called Clarences in Halifax, Yorkshire were Ckicken Shack with Christine Mcvie, Alittle band called Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Rory Gallaghers Taste etc. etc,. I think Mick Abrahams is still going strong! Simon

We used to see these as part of the Chrysalis tours in 1969 and 70 when you would get three bands from, BP, Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Van Der Graf Generator, Stone the Crows etc for 12 and a kick, that's 12 shillings and 6 pence for non Brits and for youngsters amounts to 62 and a half pence in modern money. The running order would sort itself out.

Blodwyn were a great band and the highlight of the show to young morons like me would be the show stopping Ain't Yer Comin' Home Babe but to the more sophisticated would be The Modern Alchemist with Jack highlighting and yes he did play sax and another reed instrument he'd made himself from bits of others at the same time.

Apart from those two songs they had so many other great numbers and the rhythm section were themselves excellent. Mick played excellent slide guitar and they did some lovely blues influenced numbers.

None of what I say is set in stone, it's just how I remember it, feel free to disagree, attack me or tear me limb from limb.

It's like what's being sent up in Stonehenge by Spinal Tap. It comes out as "Stone 'enge" when they say it, but they sing it (and the rest of the song) in a very bombastic, transatlantic accent.

Difference is I doubt if this bloke's a Cockney.
