Blonde Redhead has gradually increased in popularity in the underground music scene. Their early music has been described as emulative of Sonic Youth, but their more recent releases have begun to stray from this generalization. Kazu Makino is noted for her high, eerie voice, which hovers over melodic guitar riffs and rhythmic drum beats.
The large span of time between Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons and Misery is a Butterfly is attributed to Makino's recovery time after being trampled by a horse. Much of Misery Is A Butterfly's imagery and illustration is equestrian or reflective of the accident. In the liner notes, Makino thanks her doctors "and her friends who fed her and cheered her up when she couldn't do much on her own."
The band's 7th album is called "23" and was released in April 2007.
Their 8th album, "Penny Sparkle" was released in September 14, 2010.

Blonde Redhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's so close to how I want
I never found the same as you
Listen you in my house on though
You're so gentle I try
I lie you lie
My friends told me stories of you
I never seen the same again
In vain, like it was yours
Far away, like you never meant to say,
I've got to stay
I can see a worlds
I can see the worlds
That belong to you
I don't need those words
I don't need those words say Sonic Youth
Take me in, in such way
Take it all until the grace
Don't know why
Don't know why
Don't know why
Don't know why
Seeing you on the wall in my room,
It's so close to how I want
I never found
I never found
I never found
The lyrics of "U.F.O." by Blonde Redhead are somewhat abstract and open to interpretation. However, they seem to convey a sense of longing and unrequited desire for someone who is elusive and otherworldly. The singer is mesmerized by this person, whom they see on the wall of their room and hear in their house, but whom they cannot reach or fully understand.
The first stanza suggests that the singer's vision of this person is "so close to how I want," implying that they have an idealized image of them. However, they also admit that they "never found the same as you," suggesting that this person is unique and irreplaceable. The second stanza introduces the idea of "driving wizards up and down," which could be a metaphor for magical or hallucinatory experiences. The singer's friends have experienced these phenomena with this person, but the singer themselves has never seen the same again. The line "in vain, like it was yours" could imply that the person is in possession of something valuable or secret, but is not sharing it with the singer.
The rest of the lyrics repeat variations of the phrase "I never found," emphasizing the singer's frustration and longing. The final lines, "take it all until the grace," suggest a desire to fully immerse oneself in this person's world, even if it means giving everything up.
Overall, "U.F.O." seems to be a dreamy and enigmatic exploration of desire and otherness.
