"" Formed in 1992 and comprised of members Scott Angelacos (vocals), Matt Easley (guitar), Art Legre (bass), and John Stewart Jr. (drums), Bloodlet specializes in a form of hardcore that's even more angst ridden and brutal than most of their counterparts. Issuing several singles straight away, Bloodlet signed on with the renowned hardcore label Victory not long after their formation, resulting in a trio of releases during the mid to late ‘90s -- 1995's Eclectic (a compilation of their aforementioned early singles), 1996's Entheogen, and 1998's Seraphim Fall, before splitting up. Little was heard from Bloodlet's former members, as most dispersed to other locales. But during their retirement, several up and coming hardcore groups began name checking Bloodlet as an important influence (especially Eighteen Visions, among others), and by late 2001, Bloodlet had reunited and was rehearsing once more. Hooking up with renowned indie producer Steve Albini, Bloodlet issued their fourth release overall in 2002, the hard hitting Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees -- picking up exactly where they'd left off several years earlier.

Bloodlet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Bloodlet's song "95" are powerfully haunting and disturbing, and they depict a violent and brutal scene of pain and suffering. The opening lines of the song suggest a sense of darkness and despair, as the landscape is described as breaking apart and pain raining down on virgin flesh. The powerful imagery of rape is also used to convey a sense of violation and helplessness.
As the song progresses, the singer addresses the perpetrator directly, accusing them of stealing their anguish for their own amusement. The pounding and crushing that is described suggests a sense of physical violence, but the singer also suggests that the perpetrator "knows not what you do." This could be interpreted in a number of different ways, but it suggests a sense of ignorance or blindness on the part of the attacker.
The final lines of the song are perhaps the most powerful, as the singer denies any association with Christ and refuses to bleed for the listener. This could be seen as a rejection of the idea of suffering for others or of being a sacrificial lamb, and instead suggests a desire for autonomy and self-determination. Overall, "95" is a powerful and disturbing song that conveys a sense of pain, suffering, and the struggle for self-identity and autonomy.
