These five musicians from Frankfurt may be a lot of things – but they're certainly no staunch purists. No surprise then that for the main part, their new CD consists of originals - with each musician adding his own flavour to the Blend, using the good old 40's, 50's, and 60's style as stepping stone. And if they do cover a Willie Dixon song, you bet it'll be a lesser-known one. Chances are, you won't hear a staple like "Hoochie Coochie Man" or "Sweet Home Chicago" from them.

Sad but true, there's a stigma attached to the Blues, and it's the same that keeps the uneducated from broadening their palate, from so much as even sneaking an ear into the Blues: too many musicians stick to the tried and tested, limiting themselves by clinging to a canonical repertoire.
Of course, Blues Blend don't reinvent the game - but they do keep the ball rolling! They've accepted the challenge of pushing the envelope, using traditional instruments: a masterly played blues harp, a marvellously clear guitar sound, a boogie-based piano and a confident backing by bass and drum.

Take a trip with "When Daylight Comes" and find yourself in the company of Boogie, Slow Blues, and Shuffle, meet musical quotes from every kind of popular style, and take a dip with Soul, Funk, Latin, R&B, Ska, Swing, Country Blues, and sweet, sweet ballads.
Jaded tropes like "my baby left me" may be missing, but then there's no shortage of real topics in the lyrics. There's relationships, loneliness, a moment of deep crisis, sure - but such is the Blues. Doesn't mean you have to give yourself over wholesale to depression.

It should go without saying that there's no offense intended when Blues Bend sing a line like, "You ain’t good looking and I can’t stand your cooking." That's entertainment, and a tongue firmly planted in cheek. Entertainment with a big "E," just like their pinstripe suits and two-tone shoes which are most probably to blame when some writers already dub the band "Mafia-styled" and "Gangsta Blues."
Rasmus Radke who designed the album cover must have caught on to that, somehow; or why else would he have come up with such an image?

This song will always hold a special meaning in my heart.
When I was in my late teens, circumstances had me leaving home before I planned to leave. My friend's parents let me move in with them.
My friend's dad seemed to mostly like country music. But, one big exception was this song, played on the violin.
It was so moving. And, he played it incredibly well.
One day when he was working, I pulled the violin-fiddle out of the case, to see if I could play it. I played the guitar. So, his father didn't have a problem with my playing his violin.
I learned to play a little. That included some of this song.
His dad came inside, and heard me playing. He said if I wanted to have a violin of my own, he'd give one to me. Cool!
A few years went by. My friend's father died too young. I certainly didn't say anything to anyone about a violin.
But, his mother said to come to her house. She wanted to give me one of them.
Too bad--when she looked in the closet, all of his several violins were gone. She and my friend surmised someone they knew stole them. They even thought they knew who it was. But, they didn't want a confrontation. I hear that!
So, now decades later, here ends my story of how I almost got a violin. The song reminds me of my friend and his kind father.

I've been around for 81 years and listened to Chet Baker for probably 60 of them. He had a touch with the horn that was incredible. Even after he got his teeth knocked out the music was still present. It's essential that younger folks listen to the past and the era where jazz reached out to many of us. Put together Jerry Mulligan and Chet baker and there was a special magic. If I live to 100 I'll still be listening to jazz. It's part of my soul. Stay cool

Dear Sir, I couldn't agree more. It took me about 25 years to appreciate the music of my parents and grandparents. My grandfather, Arthur Pay, was a kick-ass drummer, so it must be DNA;-). Via Thelonius Monk I got into Oscar Peterson, Miles, Stan G, Billy, Charly P. etc. Recently discovered Sir Mulligan (Line for Lyon!) and look forward to discover all the treasures that Jazz (old and new) offers when it comes along my path. Chet's story is a sad one. There's a memory sign on the wall of the hotel in Amsterdam where he fell out of a window and died. The thought of it makes me cry. This song does too. Sheer magic! Blessings.

My dad passed away on 20.01.2019. We would always listen to jazz music. This piece in particular was one of his favourites. He would always say if you listen closely you will hear more than just music. It's life, it's pain, it's joy all rolled into one. Thanks dad for sharing your music with me. I love it and always will. There are many versions of this standard, Dizzy, Louie, modern musicians, but Chet had the most peculiar trumpet sound. So whispy, so airy, and yet so well suited for this music. Generally, that sound would be frowned upon, but that poignant tone, full of sorrow and solemnity, just takes music like this to new levels. Chet was a legend and his sound was something else.

USA, this song had me at 14 years old, my private lessons instructor told me I reminded him of Chet. We started playing some of his work, this particular version of Tenderly touched me the most, it painted my being a different color for the rest of my life, changed forever. It influences my heart in ways I can't describe, I'm a better person because of this recording. We love you Chet, rest in peace brother.

Oh yeah, I had the pianist at my wedding reception play it, to dance with my wife in front of our families. It was our first dance in a very small dining hall in a small gold town outside of Reno.

The trumpet is truly a beautiful wind instrument. To hear an outstandingly beautiful tune like "Tenderly" being played on it,

actually i listen to jim hall concierto de aranjuez first before i knew chet baker and other musician. it really is a masterpiece. since then i started to like chet baker, jim hall, rolland hanna. can we just share more of great music like this. if u guys have any suggestion just let me know. i am kinda new to jazz. but i prefer music like chet baker romantic slow jazz.

Being a musician myself, I love this kind of music because I was brought up with it in the middle of the 60's playing that time with my dad, relatives and friends. I love listening to Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and all jazz musicians even in this 21st century. God bless to everyone.

I didn’t realize what an excellent musician he was when I met him, back in 60’s or 70’s. He was fresh out of prison. Drove for hours in the back of a Citroen, all the way to Mendocino. We couldn’t tell anybody he was with us as he was on parole and wasn’t supposed to leave Santa Cruz county. Played with the band Warmth at the Albion River Inn. That’s when I found out about Chet Baker.

This man was so talented, he could really wail on that horn -- what a beautiful rendition of an old great song. I NEVER tire of listening to him, such a huge talent, voice and instrument. His horn is so beautiful, yet mournful when he does "Every time I say goodbye" -- it touches me way down deep and tears sting, but it hurts good!

Sweden here. Chet has helped me through a lot of hardship but it has also been there at good times. The "Best of Chet Baker" was the first music I played in my car when I got my driver's license some years back. His music really does mean a great deal to me.

Aproximadamente en 1960 yo era un muchachito larguirucho extremadamente movedizo. Mi papá me regaló entonces un radio a transistores a ver si me estaba un minuto quieto. Entonces escuché a mis amigos Stan Getz Chet Backer etc etc en la noche con las manos detrás de la boca cantaba bajito para no molestar a mis queridos pa y ma. I live on an island near SF and love it here. I have several of his albums and they fill my day listening to this incredible man perform with his trumpet and his unusual romantic voice. He is not to be beat in his genre. I adore him.

But great music transcends time; when find some time in our busy lives, we turn down the lights and slow dance cheek to cheek listening to this - the rest of the world melts away, and we once again rediscover a deep love beyond words.
