This could totally fit in the Fallout series, it makes great ambient music. I can imagine some people who didn't get a spot in a Vault but still managed to survive going through the ruined cities horrified at what happened while this is playing.

OmegaKid Alternatively I can also in addition to what you said think of the end of the Universe as we now it when all us humans won't even exist anymore and the sun is somewhat dead for example. This imagery alternatively comes to my mind. This track can make me think of the beginning of the death (end) of all intelligent life (species) on earth.
