During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

No Sympathy *1
Bob Marley & The Wailers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No sympathy
What kind of love
They've got for me
I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find
Some peace and rest
When I'm in my trouble here
Only me feels the pain
Not one simple word
Good word of advice
From any of my so called friends
I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind of love
They've got for me
I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find
Some peace and rest
Might as well, might as well
I get out, I get out of hell
Hell would never be made for me
So I'll search, search 'till I'm free
I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind of love
They've got for me
I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find
Some peace and rest
I can't find no love
No sympathy
What kind of love
They've got for me
I'm on my way
To happiness
Where I can find
Some peace and rest
The lyrics of "No Sympathy" by Bob Marley & The Wailers express a feeling of isolation and disappointment with the lack of support received from friends and loved ones in difficult times. Marley begins by lamenting that he cannot find any love or sympathy despite his efforts, questioning what kind of love those around him really have for him. He then resolves to seek happiness and peace elsewhere, suggesting that his current situation is not conducive to finding these things. Marley notes that he feels alone in his struggles, as none of his friends offer any helpful advice or words of comfort, suggesting that genuine support is hard to come by.
The next verse sees Marley resolving to leave the negative environment he finds himself in, indicating that he would rather be anywhere else than where he is currently. He asserts that he does not belong in a place that causes him so much pain and trouble, stating that even the concept of hell would not be fitting for him. The final verse repeats the initial sentiment about the lack of love and sympathy, emphasizing the frustration and disappointment Marley is feeling.
Overall, "No Sympathy" is a poignant reflection on the value of genuine support and the difficulty of finding it when we need it most. Marley's lyrics offer an insight into the isolation and hurt that can come with feeling unsupported, as well as the desire to seek out happiness and peace in a more positive environment.
