You make a wind forget to blow
You make the sun up in the sky forget to shine,
And you are driving me out of my mind, now
You make a bell forget to ring
You make a bird forget to sing
You make a weeping willow tree forget to cry,
You're a voodoo woman, that's plain to see
You're a voodoo woman, so stay away from me
You make a dog forget to growl
You make the wind forget to howl
And voodoo woman you break every heart you see,
So voodoo woman stay away from me now
You're a voodoo woman, that's plain to see,
You're a voodoo woman, so stay away from me
You make a dog forget to growl
You make the wind forget to howl
And voodoo woman you break every heart you see,
So voodoo woman stay away from me
The lyrics to Bobby Goldsboro's song Voodoo Woman suggest that the subject of the song is a powerful and somewhat malevolent force in the world. This woman has the ability to influence, even control, nature itself. She can make roses afraid to grow, winds forget to blow, and even cause the sun to forget to shine. She can make bells not ring and birds not sing. Her influence is so great it makes weeping willow trees forget to cry and covers the sky with clouds.
The overall message of the song seems to be that this voodoo woman is someone to be avoided at all costs. She has such a potent effect on the world that even dogs forget to growl and winds forget to howl in her presence. She seems to have no regard for the hearts she breaks and the damage she causes. The singer begs her to stay away, acknowledging her power as a voodoo woman and the great harm she can bring.
Overall, the song suggests the overwhelming and terrifying influence of this voodoo woman, and the power she holds over the natural world.
