Just found a Seth Thomas Ship's Bell c.1921, all in excellent order except that the gong is two hours ahead of the movement time... exactly two hours during the four-hour watch keeping cycle :)
Would the technique you describe here work for this situation ?
This clock does not have a silent mode switch

When you forget to wind the alarm spring, the clock WILL NOT GET OUT OF SYNC. Just wind the alarm spring and it will chime correctly. The snail, which controls the number of chimes every full hour and is connected to hour hand, has not changed position relative to the hour hand.

I bought a Takeda clock and had it shipped directly to my parents in 1970 while I was in Vietnam. After they passed away. I inherited the clock. After being stored for a few years, I decided to hang it on a wall in my home, and discovered it would strike as if the time was six hours ahead of the displayed time. I'm going to try your technique, carefully winding the hour hand six hours ahead and post an update to this comment.

After syncing the chime, to get it to correct time once more, do you turn the hands clock-wise? I’m guessing counter clock-wise would loosen the hour and minute hands once more.

I have a school house clock and it would strike odd strikes How I fixed mine was when it struck 12 anywhere on the face I would run hour hand up to 12/ After that, it would strike the right hours afterwards.

I only heard 3 chimes, not eight? We moved and I can’t get my clock in sync. I have it on a Westminster chime every quarter and that’s all messed up as well. The clock is running fine just the chimes are all off. 😔 Your clock is beautiful! Are you going to fix it to make it sound better? I love it.

Yo bro recently found what I figure to be a 75-year-old clock trying to figure out how to reset it it's off by 2 hours at midnight it only strikes 10 LOL I'll try to find it it's really a nice clock and I don't even like clocks. 😁🇨🇦😁

Hi, I have antique porcelain Ansonia clock. It runs great but for some reason is chiming half hour on full hours and vice versa. How do I correct it ! I would appreciate your advice

I have the same problem, but using the hour hand wont fix the problem. Minute hand still strikes full hours on 6 and half hour on 12.

Wont touch the minute hand after Reading up on the net "DO NOT TOUCH IT".

Hi I have a Seth Thomas clock the chime is ahead by 5 hrs so I move the hour hand by 5 hrs.
But hope it does not damge the hour gear or shaft

but does not explain how to get the clock to run in real time... doing this the clock will still run 4 or 5 or whatever hours behind or ahead. how does it eventually catch up or chime at the current hour? Once it is synched with the correct gong numbers do you then move the small hand to the current hour .. ? will it then fix itself.. ? the end is still a mystery. lol

I resync ed the hands ok and it chimes the correct time until it gets to 12- O'Clock it chimes 12 times . Perfect. Then it gets to 1 O'Clock- - It still chimes 12 times at the 1 O'Clock position ? How do I rectify that please?
