Just My Imagination
Boyz II Men Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Each day through my window
I watch as how she passes by
I said to myself
Your such a lucky guy
To have a good girl like her
It's truly your dream come true
Out of all the fellows in the world
She belongs to you'
But it was just my imagination
Running away with me
It was just my imagination
Running away with me

Soon we'll be married
And raise a family oh yeah
In a cosy little home
In the country
Where two children maybe for real
Until you rise
I can feel you eyes on all
This couldn't be a dream
For too real it all seems
But it was just my imagination (once again)

Running away with me
Tell you it's just my imagination
Running away with me

Every night, on my knees I pray,
Dear Lord, hear my plea
Don't ever let another
Take her love from me
Or I will surely die
Ooh, her love is heavenly
When her arms enfold me,
I hear a tender rhapsody
But in reality,
She doesn't even know me
But in reality she doesn't really know me

It was just my imagination, running away with me running, running, running, running, running
Babe it was just my imagination running away with me
It was just my imagination running away with me (hold me)

Just my imagination
Running away with me

Overall Meaning

The song "Just My Imagination" by Boyz II Men is a soulful R&B ballad that speaks of a man's deep longing for his dream girl. The opening lyrics, "Each day through my window, I watch as she passes by," set the tone for the track as the singer watches the woman he loves from afar. He feels lucky to have her, but deep inside he knows it's just his imagination. The lyrics "Running away with me" are repeated throughout the song, emphasizing that his wishful thinking is taking over his mind.

The song speaks of the man's desire to marry the woman he loves and raise a family with her. However, he knows that his feelings for her are not reciprocated, and she doesn't even know he exists. He begs the Lord to protect their relationship and not let anyone else interfere because he knows he would die without her love. The final verses of the song speak of the singer's bittersweet realization that her love is just a fantasy and it's time for him to move on.

Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on unrequited love and the heartache that comes with it. It's a testament to the power of the imagination and how it can both inspire and deceive us.

As a huge fan of most originals, I still have to give ultimate respect to these smooth voices making a beautiful version of such a classic ballad. Their harmony is just always so beautiful!

Their voices have matured like fine wine over the years, while their peers can even hold a note. Boys 2 Men Forever!!!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous version. The Temptations would be VERY proud. This wasn't so much a simple cover as Boyz II Men emulating the Temptations and paying homage to their roots. Boyz II Men have always reminded me of the Temptations. Their songs, "Please Don't Go", "On Bended Knee", "I'll Make Love to You" and "End of the Road" all have their sound. I'm thrilled to see that they performed this WHILE doing the dance steps! That's PURE Temptations! :)

OMG!!!! The things these guys can do with their voices! God has truly shown them so much favor! I love them even more!

Only Boyz ll Men would do any justice to this song in this time. The truth is when you listen to this you can't make any comparisons. The temptations are untouchable and their style unique so are the Boyz; not to mention the difference and peculiarity of the two voices (Kendricks and Wanye). You just gotta appreciate the fact that real music is being sung and get to the realization that some songs are just in a bracket by themselves.ย

We all have our opinions, but the original was better IMHO.
