Turcotte opened his website in 2002 with the intention of producing "open source music". His self-produced single, Brad Sucks One, included the audio source files used to create the finished files, and later he posted these source files to his website along with the MP3s.
Turcotte waives all rights to his songs, essentially making them public domain. This total freedom allows him to promote his music through sites such as Magnatune and ccMixter, as well as Myspace and Podsafe. Since he was one of the first to make this decision, he also received free publicity through blogs and interviews in free culture magazines. His first full CD, I Don't Know What I'm Doing, was released both through Magnatune and a limited "professional" printing from his own website.
Turcotte also runs the website stripcreator.com , which allows participants to create their own talking-head webcomics. He is also the creator of in4mador. He is also listed on Sellaband, a website where artists co-ordinate raising money to record an album.

I Think I Started a Trend
Brad Sucks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I took it hard and now I'm spending my days
Drunk lying around in total comfort and sin
And if you believe me I can do it again
Sold out all my friends and then I took it easy
Everybody said they never would believe me
I paid no attention to the very end
Dead clothes horses running crazy out of the gates
Player haters in the meadow learning how to create
Big belly well he said he was a man from LA
He seemed okay and so I signed it away
The lyrics of Brad Sucks’ song I Think I Started a Trend speak of a life that has gone wrong. The first line, “washed up on the shoreline getting sand in my face,” is a metaphor for being stranded, feeling lost and all alone. The singer is feeling down, having had a difficult time, and now is spending his days in a drunken stupor, lying around in total comfort and sin. He’s been this way before, and if you believe him, he can do it again.
The next part of the song speaks of how the singer has sold out all his friends to take it easy. Everyone said they wouldn't have believed him if he’d told them he would do it, but he paid no attention to the very end. Sucks’ is speaking to how some people will exploit others to get ahead and be successful, forgetting about their friends or principles.
The chorus “oh yeah, I think I started a trend” is a sarcastic take on the singer’s actions, suggesting that his actions may have inspired others to act similarly. However, starting a trend of selling out friends is not something to be proud of.
Overall, I Think I Started a Trend speaks of the pitfalls of fame, fortune, and success. The singer has lost his way and is now living in a self-destructive cycle. Whether or not the trend has been started, his actions are not commendable, and the song serves as a commentary on what happens when people lose sight of their values.
