gehst du in ein großes Haus
deine Kinder brauchen Platz
an diesem schönen Leben hängt man so sehr
Arbeit adelt
sprach dein Vater einst so klug
Dann verbirgst du dein Gesicht in ihrem Haar
The song "Du willst alt werden" by Bruce Low explores the desire to age gracefully and be remembered fondly by loved ones. The first verse describes the process of leaving one's home and downsizing to a smaller space, giving away possessions like a garden and a pet canary. The second verse focuses on accepting aging and finding contentment in simple things like a quick haircut and peeling potatoes with no worries or regrets. The final verse acknowledges the joys of being surrounded by family, particularly grandchildren who bring laughter and joy to an elderly person's life.
Overall, the lyrics of the song suggest a peaceful acceptance of aging and finding happiness in the small moments of life. Rather than holding onto possessions or longing for lost youth, the singer of the song values time spent with loved ones and the sense of purpose found in everyday activities.
This interpretation of the song is reinforced by the soft, gentle melody and Bruce Low's soothing voice. The simple instrumentation creates a sense of calm, while Low's singing conveys a sense of wisdom and perspective that comes with age.
