The song "Es hängt ein Pferdehalfter an der Wand" by Bruce Low tells the story of a man who is feeling sad and nostalgic as he looks at a horse halter hanging on the wall and a saddle lying nearby. The man explains that he is sad because he sees the iron that his pony wore and the bridle that now rusts in the stable, but he still sees his pony everywhere. The man reminisces about his friendship with his pony, saying that he never adored anyone else as much as he did his pony. They had a special bond, and he talked to him as if he was his best friend. The man ends the song by revealing that his pony saved his life during a stampede of wild cattle, which made their bond even stronger. The song's emotional intensity stems from the fact that the man's pony is now gone, and all that is left are the objects that remind him of their bond.

Es hängt ein Pferdehalfter an der Wand
There is a horse halter hanging on the wall
und der Sattel liegt gleich nebenan
And the saddle lies right nearby
fragt ihr mich, warum ich traurig bin
If you ask me why I am sad
schau ich nur zum Pferdehalfter hin
I only look at the horse halter
I see the iron that my pony wore
Dieses Eisen, das ich selbst ihm schlug
This iron that I myself forged for him
Sein Zaumzeug rostet jetzt im Stall,
His bridle is now rusting in the stable
doch ich seh mein Pony überall.
Yet I see my pony everywhere
It was my friend, I never revered anyone else like that
nur ich allein kenn den Wert
Only I alone know his worth
I talked to him as one would talk to a good friend,

And the saddle lies right nearby
ich denk, daß ihr mich jetzt versteht
I think that you understand me now
warum mir sein Ende nahe geht
Why his end is nearing for me

It was one night by the prairie campfire

That's when my pony came to me and woke me up
So my pony saved my life, he really was my best comrade
