Fever
Bruce Springsteen Lyrics

When I get home from my job
I turn on my t.v.
But I can't keep my mind on the show
When I lay down at night
I don't get no sleep
So I turn on the radio
But, lord, the only thing I hear
Is you whisperin' in my ear
The words that you used to say
Well, now the days grow longer
My love grows stronger
And the fever gets worse every day

I got a fever for a girl
He's got the fever
Oh, he's got the fever
Nothing that a boy can do
When he's got the fever for a girl
He's got the fever
Oh, he's got the fever
Left this little boy blue

I can remember comin' home
See you standin' at the stove
With the dishes on the table
Dinner ready to go
Or maybe out to a movie show
Something that you'd like to see
Oh, you were my sun in the morning
And my moon at night
When you put your arms around me
Made me fell alright
Well, now the days grow longer
And my love just grows stronger
And the fever gets so bad at night

I got a fever for a girl
He's got the fever
Oh, he's got the fever nothing that a boy can do
When he's got the fever for a girl
He's got the fever
Oh, he's got the fever
Left this little boy blue

It's gonna be alright, now
If I can make it to the morning
I'm gonna be alright, now
If I can just make it to the morning

It's just this long and lonely nights
Every time I close my eyes
All I see is her face
Every time I shut my eyes
All I see is her face
But I'm gonna be alright, now
I'll be alright, now
When I shut down all the lights
When I turn off all the lights
When I turn down all the lights
And when I lay my head on the pillow
I can't stop myself in thinking

"Baby, where are you tonight? "
"Where is she tonight? "

The Fever is a song by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band that depicts the story of a man who is lovesick and has a fever for a girl he deeply loved. The man finds solace in watching TV but cannot keep his mind on the show. Whenever he goes to bed, he cannot sleep and ends up turning on the radio where the only thing he can hear is the woman's whispers in his ear. The song portrays the agony he feels and how his love for the girl grows stronger with each passing day.

Springsteen & The E Street Band bring out the theme of the song so superbly that even those who have never experienced such heartache can feel the man's pain. The guitar riffs and the saxophone solos integrate so well with the lyrics that the combination is simply hypnotizing. The Fever tells a story that is so relatable that it continues to resonate with listeners long after the first time they hear it.

Overall, The Fever is a powerful and emotionally moving song that leaves listeners feeling every word of the song. It is a perfect example of Springsteen & The E Street Band's unique way of combining remarkable lyrics and exceptional music to create melodies that bridge the gap between the artist and the audience.

When I get home from my job
Upon my return from my work,

I turn on my t.v.
I switch on the television set,

But I can't keep my mind on the show
But I am unable to concentrate on the program,

When I lay down at night
When it is time to go to bed,

I don't get no sleep
I fail to get any sleep,

So I turn on the radio
Thus, I turn on the radio set,

But, lord, the only thing I hear
However, the only thing I hear by God's mercy,

Is you whisperin' in my ear
Is your whispering in my ear,

The words that you used to say
The words you used to say to me,

Well, now the days grow longer
Now, with each day that passes,

My love grows stronger
My love for you grows more profound,

And the fever gets worse every day
And my passion for you intensifies each day.

I got a fever for a girl
I crave for you intensely like a fever,

He's got the fever
I possess a burning desire for you,

Oh, he's got the fever
Oh, I can't seem to calm this fervent feeling,

Nothing that a boy can do
It is beyond my power to control,

When he's got the fever for a girl
When he craves for you like this,

He's got the fever
I possess a burning desire for you,

Oh, he's got the fever

Left this little boy blue
It leaves me feeling powerless like a helpless child.

I can remember comin' home
I can still recollect coming home to you,

See you standin' at the stove
And seeing you standing by the stove,

With the dishes on the table
With the dishes served on the table,

Dinner ready to go
And dinner ready to be eaten,

Or maybe out to a movie show
Or sometimes catching a movie show,

Something that you'd like to see
Something that you would enjoy watching,

Oh, you were my sun in the morning
You were like sunshine in the morning,

And my moon at night
And my moon at night,

When you put your arms around me
When you embrace me in your arms,

Made me fell alright
I feel alright,

Well, now the days grow longer
Now, with each day that passes,

And my love just grows stronger
My love for you becomes more profound,

And the fever gets so bad at night
And my passion for you intensifies at night.

It's gonna be alright, now
Everything's going to be alright now,

If I can make it to the morning
Provided I can live through the night,

I'm gonna be alright, now
I will be alright now,

If I can just make it to the morning
If I can make it through till morning,

It's just this long and lonely nights
These long, lonely and sleepless nights,

Every time I close my eyes
Every time I shut my eyes,

All I see is her face
All I can see is your face,

Every time I shut my eyes
Every time I close my eyes,

All I see is her face
All I can see is your face,

But I'm gonna be alright, now
But I will be alright now,

I'll be alright, now
Everything will be fine,

When I shut down all the lights
When I switch off all the lights,

When I turn off all the lights
When I switch off all the lights,

When I turn down all the lights
When I dim all the lights,

And when I lay my head on the pillow
And when I put my head down on the pillow,

I can't stop myself in thinking
I cannot stop myself from thinking,

"Baby, where are you tonight? "
"Where are you tonight, my darling?"

"Where is she tonight? "
"Where are you tonight, my darling?"

Just a great early Springsteen song. Supposedly the Boss never really liked it and it never received the full treatment it deserved. Kudos to Little Steven and the Boss for handing it off to Southside Johnnie. His cover, the title cut off his 1976 debut album produced by Little Steven, just slays. Worth a hundred listens!

@edgreen8140

That sax!!!

@yahyaqamar456

This has to be by far the most underrated song of Springsteen ever! The delicious blue-ish touch to this song! The last time I heard this song was in a shady bar in the Southern US.

@peterhawryluk8430

Saw him play this live in Jersey more then once. When he was the jersey devil 😈 even saw him in a strip bar. Very laid back dude.

@vettekingiam

IMO, the best cut by Springsteen, EVER.

@AudreyLayneAudlayne714

why never put on a single or an album????????????????????????????????

@jameswood3977

It's on his album called '18 Tracks' (18 rare tracks) I brought it on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000023XAG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@DIYBrew

I agree

@louvegas1048

Because he let Southside Johnny take the hit.

@acm1350

@@louvegas1048 - there was nothing stopping Southside J from making this song his alone.
