The Price of Love
Bryan Ferry (with Roxy Music) Lyrics

Drink all you can but you won't forget her
You talk too much, you laugh too loud
You see her face in every crowd
ThatΒ΄s the price of love, the price of love
A debt you pay with tears and pain
The price of love, the price of love
Kiss one girl - kiss another
Kiss them all, but you won't recover
You're dancing slow, you're dancing fast
You're happy now, but that won't last
That's the price of love, the price of love
A debt you pay in tears and pain
The price of love, the price of love
It costs you more when youΓΒ΄re to blame
Bryan Ferry's "Price of Love" describes the agony and heartbreak of love. The opening lines, "Wine is sweet and gin is bitter, drink all you can but you won't forget her," set the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is drowning his sorrows in alcohol but can't forget the woman he loves. Her memory haunts him everywhere he goes, and he can't escape the pain.
The chorus repeats the phrase "the price of love" as a metaphor for the cost of loving someone. It's a debt that must be paid with tears and pain, and it's higher when you're to blame. The singer seems to be blaming himself for the demise of the relationship, suggesting he was unfaithful: "Kiss one girl, kiss another, kiss them all, but you won't recover."
The bridge explores the ups and downs of a tumultuous love affair: "You're dancing slow, you're dancing fast, you're happy now, but that won't last." In the end, the singer is left alone with his regrets and the heavy burden of lost love.
Overall, "Price of Love" is a melancholic reflection on the cost of loving someone deeply and losing them. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak, and Ferry's emotive delivery captures the pain and longing at the core of the song.

I was profoundly affected by bryan and roxy in the mid 70's when I just 15. One of the really great bands of that time...not many bands could touch their live intensity.. Β !!Β

What's coolest about it is that at his most achingly hip, Ferry recognized the greatness of Phil 'n' Don, and shot probably their hardest rocking track ever back out into the world for another generation to dig. Β Well done sir.
