The sound of the beast unleashing
This isn’t how I want the story to play out
There’s something beneath the water, that’s moving
The clarity in my reflection, I’m losing
A serpent beneath the surface
A force that has been unharnessed
I cannot keep it bottled up anymore
I’ve become lost in the sea
Where saints become sinners
And hate needs to breathe
I’ve never felt this before
The darkest of feelings so far from the shore
I’ve been the viper since day one
Spitting venom with a forked tongue
The time has come, to shed the shadows
I, the demon unleashed
There’s something beneath the water, that’s moving
The clarity in my reflection, I’m losing
I see the serpent rising, I feel the rage is gathering
I’m losing the battle between wrong and right
I’ve become lost in the sea
Where saints become sinners
And hate needs to breathe
I’ve never felt this before
The darkest of feelings so far from the shore
I’ve been the viper since day one
Spitting venom with a forked tongue
The time has come, to shed the shadows
I, the demon unleashed
The time has come, to shed the shadows
I, the demon unleashed
The lyrics to Bury Tomorrow's song Darker Water paint a vivid picture of a personal struggle between good and evil. The opening lines introduce a sense of impending doom, with the singer feeling as though a storm is rising and a beast is being unleashed. They express the desire for the story to play out differently, indicating that they are not in control of the situation. The imagery of something lurking beneath the water suggests a hidden danger, with the clarity of the singer's reflection representing their own deteriorating sense of self-awareness. This is contrasted with the serpent beneath the surface, which represents the darker side of the singer's nature that they have been trying to suppress.
As the song progresses, the singer becomes increasingly lost and isolated, feeling as though they are adrift in a sea of sin and hatred. This is highlighted through the repetition of the line "where saints become sinners and hate needs to breathe." The singer is grappling with a sense of darkness and despair that they have never felt before, which is reflected in the lyrics "the darkest of feelings so far from the shore." However, they also acknowledge that they have been complicit in their own downfall, describing themselves as a "viper" who has been spitting venom with a forked tongue since day one.
Despite this, there is a sense of catharsis in the final lines of the song. The singer acknowledges that the time has come to shed their shadows and unleash their inner demon, suggesting that they are ready to embrace their darker nature and confront the challenges that lie ahead.
