You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
It seems we are born to hate
Eradicate, eradicate, eradicate
Open your eyes to lead the blind
We are the people under one sky
Listen and learn, hear the ground shake
We're bound to break, bound to break, bound to break the laws the higher create
Living in a false sense of fate
Am I the only one who ever felt like this?
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
Can't you see we are bound to break?
Can't you hear the ground shake?
Why must we allow others to dictate?
Can't you see that we are bound to break?
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
Whether it's the color of someone's skin,
Or it's the God that they believe in
It shouldn't matter
It's the same world we are living in
It doesn't have to feel like this
Enough
Fighting for borders that don't exist
Condemning others that try to resist
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
Remember this before you speak what's on your lips
You have to change the way you think
If not for me, for you
The lyrics to Bury Tomorrow's song "For Us" convey a powerful message of unity, empathy, and the need for change in the way we think and approach others. The song starts by urging the listener to consider the consequences of their words and to shift their mindset. It emphasizes the importance of change not only for personal growth but also for the betterment of society as a whole.
The song highlights the fact that humanity often seems predisposed to hate and discrimination. The repetition of the word "eradicate" suggests a desire to eliminate these negative tendencies and open our eyes to lead the blind. Bury Tomorrow emphasizes the unity of humanity under one sky, implying that we are all interconnected and should work towards common goals.
The lyrics also touch upon the idea of breaking free from societal constraints and challenging the laws and beliefs imposed by those in power. The line "Living in a false sense of fate" suggests the need to question the status quo and not accept things merely because they have always been that way. The singer wonders if they are the only one who has ever felt the need for change, indicating a desire for others to join them in their pursuit of a better world.
The song further explores issues of prejudice and inequality, highlighting that these divisions, be it based on skin color or religious beliefs, should not matter. It emphasizes the same world we all inhabit and questions why others have the authority to dictate the lives of others. Bury Tomorrow pleads for people to open their minds, challenge borders, and condemn those who resist progress.
Overall, "For Us" encourages listeners to be mindful of their words, challenge their own perspectives, and strive for a world free from discrimination and division. It serves as a call to action, urging individuals to change not just for themselves but for the betterment of humanity as a whole.
