You & I
Bury Tomorrow Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This has been shown to you and I, a path with faith and fear beside us
The weight of love and hate we bare will give the answers

Our path is made, determination to make it through
And so, hand in hand we walk this forest floor
Doomed to be apart for evermore
I gave my life for you
This has been shown to you and I
And you don't know and you can't see,
Where the answers have been taking me
And you don't know and you can't see,
Where the answers have been taking me

I am the one to bend backwards again, like you heard this before
Why won't you answer me, why won't you answer me

This has been shown to you and I, a path with faith and fear beside us
The weight of love and hate we bare will give the answers

This is a turning point, determination is just a farse
And so, our hands have strayed apart
This forest trail, led us back to the start
Doomed to be apart, for evermore

This has been shown to you and I
And you don't know and you can't see,
Where the answers have been taking me
And you don't know and you can't see,
Where the answers have been taking me...

... Sick of the sight, we are doomed to be apart
Doomed, we are doomed, to be apart, for evermore

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bury Tomorrow's song You & I appear to tell the story of two people in a relationship, facing obstacles that test their love and commitment to each other. They are on a journey, represented by a forest trail, with both faith and fear accompanying them. They carry the weight of both love and hate, which are the forces that will ultimately guide them to their answers. The tone is ominous, hinting at a sense of hopelessness that is further emphasized by the repetition of "doomed to be apart, forevermore" at the end of the song.

The lyrics seem to explore the idea of the unknown - the journey is uncertain and the answers are obscured. "And you don't know and you can't see, where the answers have been taking me" shows the frustration of not understanding the reason for the challenges they face. The phrase "I am the one to bend backwards again" speaks to the idea of compromise and sacrifice, suggesting that one person is always giving more than the other. The line "This forest trail, led us back to the start" marks a turning point, a realization that they have come full circle and are doomed to repeat their struggles.

Overall, the lyrics of You & I paint a picture of a complicated relationship, where the emotions are heavy and the future is uncertain. It's a song that speaks to the challenges that come with love, and the desire to find answers in the face of overwhelming adversity.

@Dybreed unfortunately it was removed, as I had the album saved in a playlist and now its just greyed out :( Looks like they removed anything pre-2012, which is a real shame.

@James Robinson it WAS on Spotify, they removed this album. Usually when that happens it’s because whatever label the song was under can no longer keep it up on Spotify, but I’m just guessing.

Yes please!! I seen them in 2010 in Allentown PA, first concert i was 18. Now all i want for Christmas is a vinyl of their first album!

I was really surprised this wasn’t on Spotify. I remember seeing them in 2009 and buying this album from them. Saw them in Birmingham Alabama. This song was my favorite off the album. The whole album was great though. Crazy all of their growth though for real!

Damn man, this band is amazing. I think they had better break downs on the older albums. That’s not to discredit the more recent music, it’s all amazing.
