Blame It On The Blues
Buzz Carlton Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I awake to hear a soft voice calling
Like an angel and now there is sorrow
With dignity you turn to me and ask why
Emptyness I fill up my mind with
Spilling out all the truth
Dont look at me babe
Strength can beat the strongest good man
I lie down where I take my stand
In innocence I hold it all inside
For all the things that I did
And I didnt do dont look at me babe
Just blame it on the blues
Yes for all the things that I did
And I didnt do
Dont look at me babe
Just blame it on the blues
Dont look at me babe
Just blame
Blame it on the blues

In Buzz Carlton's song "Blame it on the Blues," the singer wakes up one morning to hear a soft voice calling. The voice seems angelic, and yet there is sorrow. The singer's partner turns to him or her and asks why there is emptiness in the singer's mind. The singer responds truthfully, spilling out all the truth, but begs the partner not to look at him or her and instead, just blame it on the blues. The singer feels weak, lying down where he or she takes a stand. Despite holding everything inside, the singer feels guilt for things done and not done. The singer again asks the partner not to look at him or her, just to blame it on the blues. The song ends with the repeated refrain of "just blame it on the blues."
This song seems to be about the struggles we all face in life, and how sometimes it's easier to just blame our struggles on something else, in this case, the blues. The singer seems to be going through a tough time and is struggling to cope with whatever is going on in his or her life. The singer is being honest and open with his or her partner, but still feels guilty for things done and not done, perhaps looking for a way to explain them away.
