Way back on Calvary
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power.
It soothes my doubts and calms my fears
And it dries all my tears
From day to day
It will never lose its power.
It reaches to the highest mountain
And it flows to the lowest valley
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power.
The lyrics to Candi Staton's song "Cotton Candi" are a testimony to the power of Jesus' blood shed on the cross. The opening line, "The blood that Jesus shed for me, way back on Calvary," refers to the crucifixion of Jesus, where he shed his blood to save humanity from sin. This blood is considered holy and is believed to have the power to heal and make one stronger, as the lyrics state, "The blood that gives me strength from day to day."
The following lines of the song describe the various ways in which the blood of Jesus helps the singer overcome their doubts, fears, and tears. The repetition of the lines, "It will never lose its power," reaffirms the singer's trust and faith in the strength of Jesus' blood.
The final lines, "It reaches to the highest mountain and it flows to the lowest valley," suggest that the transforming power of the blood of Jesus is accessible to all, irrespective of their social or economic status. The song concludes with the repeated statement, "It will never lose its power," reiterating the never-ending strength of Jesus' blood.
