Do It In The Name Of Love
CANDI STATON Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Boy, you sure know how
To please me (ooh, yeah)
Don't you do it if you
Think you got to, no
Don't you do it if you
Think you ought to (ooh, yeah)
Oh, oh, oh
Do it in the name of love
If you really want me
That's reason enough
Do it in the name of love
Do it in the name of love
Ooh, Lord, mmm hmm
Got to, oh
Don't you know we go together
I swear it feels like forever, boy
(Ooh, yeah)
Don't be scared now
Don't you worry, oh, yeah
It's all right
There's no hurry, woo (ooh, yeah)
Oh, oh, oh
Do it in the name of love
If you really want me
That's reason enough
Do it in the name of love
Oh, do it in the name of love
The lyrics to Candi Staton's song "Do It In the Name of Love" express the power of love and how it can make people do things they might not otherwise do. The opening lines indicate that the person the singer is addressing has a way of getting her to talk easily and knows how to please her. She then cautions him not to do anything just because he feels he has to or ought to, but says that if he wants to do something to show his love for her, that's reason enough.
The chorus reinforces this idea, urging him to act in the name of love if he really wants her. The bridge of the song highlights the connection between the two of them, telling him that they go together and that it feels like they've been together forever. The final lines encourage him not to be scared or worried, that there's no rush, and that acting in the name of love is the right thing to do.
Overall, the lyrics emphasize the importance of love and giving oneself over to its power. They suggest that actions taken in the name of love have the potential to be meaningful and significant, and that doing something for love is always a good reason.
