Staton sang with the Jewell Gospel Trio and as teenagers, they toured the traditional gospel circuit in the 1950s with The Soul Stirrers, C. L. Franklin, and Mahalia Jackson. They recorded several sides for Nashbro, Apollo[disambiguation needed ], and Savoy Records between 1953 and 1963, before launching a solo career in 1968.
She had 16 R&B hits for Fame Studios and received Grammy nominations for cover versions of country standards. In 1975 she started working with disco producer Dave Crawford and had hits "Young Hearts Run Free" and "Victim". Also, The Mighty Majors ("You Can Never Go Back") was her backup band once on the road.
In 1982 she returned to gospel forming Beracah Ministries with her husband John Sussewell. In 1991 she had a top 10 UK hit as The Source featuring Candi Staton with dance track "You Got The Love".
In 2004 when Sex and the City ended its successful six-year run, the last song played on that show was "You Got the Love" with Sarah Jessica Parker walking down New York City streets and talking about the endless relationship with herself.
Jesus Is Here Right Now

Jesus is here right now
He is here to meet your needs
To set the captives free
Oooo Jesus is here right now
If you feel all hope is gone
And you fight the battle alone
Jesus will visit you today
Take the dark clouds away
Oooo Jesus is here right now
Jesus is here right now
Jesus is here right now
He is here to meet your needs
To set the captives free
Oooo Jesus is here right now
If you feel nobody cares
And life has been unfair
And you can't find peace of mind nowhere
He is here to pull your hands
Pick up and let you stand
Oooo Jesus is here right now
Jesus is here right now
Jesus is here right now
He is here to meet your needs
To set the captives free
Oooo Jesus is here right now
Oo He is here
Oo He is here right now
He can bring you peace
He can bring you joy
He can bring you love
He is here
The lyrics of Candi Staton's song "Jesus Is Here Right Now" express the belief of many Christians that Jesus is present in their lives and can provide them with the strength and comfort they need. The repetition of "Jesus is here right now" emphasizes this idea and creates a sense of immediacy and urgency. The song speaks to those who feel hopeless, alone, and burdened by life's struggles, offering them the message that Jesus is there to help them overcome their difficulties.
In the first verse, the lyrics suggest that Jesus is present to meet people's needs and set them free from whatever is holding them back. The second verse speaks to those struggling with depression and emphasizes that Jesus can take away the darkness and provide light and hope. The chorus repeats the idea that Jesus is here to meet people's needs and set them free, while the third verse speaks to those who feel that nobody cares and that life is unfair. Again, the message is that Jesus is there to help them stand up and find peace of mind.
Overall, the lyrics of "Jesus Is Here Right Now" offer a message of hope and promise to those who believe in Jesus. They suggest that even in the darkest moments, Christians can turn to Jesus to find strength and comfort. The song's simple and repetitive structure reinforces this message and ensures that the listener leaves with the message that Jesus is there for them.
