Perhaps you could do your worst in biro
Tattoo scratch for real or for me or for everyone I know
You hurt, I know you cry, and there I understand
Christmas lights, blizzards and the snow
You have to let go, give in to your grief
Find a figurehead in a paper bag or down the street
Need to let go, it's not forevermore
Be practical and love yourself
I'm here, I understand
I'm here, I understand
I'm here, I understand.
The song "Love Yourself" by Candi Staton speaks about the importance of self-love and self-care in times of difficulty and pain. The lyrics suggest that one should indulge in activities that make them feel good and pampered, like getting a tattoo or finding someone who cares for them. It also acknowledges that painful experiences can make us feel lost and helpless, but it is important to let go and not hold on to the pain forever.
The opening line, "Pamper me," is a call for self-indulgence and self-care. The singer suggests that they want to do something that might seem "bad" or "rebellious" like getting a tattoo. The line "You hurt, I know you cry, and there I understand" hints that the person may have gone through some emotional turmoil or a heartbreak, and the singer can relate to their pain.
The imagery of "Christmas lights, blizzards and the snow," evokes a sense of melancholy and isolation, which can make it even harder to let go of the pain. However, the song encourages the listener to find someone they can trust and depend on. The final lines, "I'm here, I understand," suggest that the singer is willing to be that person for the listener and offer them support when they need it.
Overall, "Love Yourself" is a soulful ballad that captures the need for self-love and emotional support during difficult times. It encourages listeners to acknowledge their pain and emotions, but also not to get lost in them and to remember to love themselves.
