Take My Hand

Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired
I am weak
I am warm
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
When my way grows drear'
Precious Lord, linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand, precious lord, lead me home
When the darkness appears, and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
Let the river, where I stand, guide my feet, hold my hand
Take my hand, precious lord, lead me home
Take my hand, precious lord, lead me home
The lyrics of Candi Staton's song "Take My Hand Precious Lord" are a plea for God's guidance through difficult times. The first stanza begins with the singer addressing God directly, asking Him to take her hand and lead her on. She admits that she is weary and weak, and she needs His help to stand firm. The repeated use of the word "precious" emphasizes the value of the Lord's hand in guiding her. The second stanza again acknowledges the struggles of life, but this time it emphasizes the singer's own mortality. She asks God to "linger near" as the end of her life approaches, and to hold her hand so that she will not fall. The final stanza uses vivid imagery to describe the approach of death, with the darkness representing the end of life. But the singer maintains her trust in God's guidance, asking Him to lead her home to heaven.
Overall, the song is a heartfelt expression of faith and a recognition of life's trials. It acknowledges that everyone will face difficult times and that death is inevitable, but it also emphasizes the importance of holding onto one's faith in God during those times.
