1 - Caliban, a metalcore band, was formed in Germany in 1997 under the name Never Again. After 6 months of playing together, the band recorded their first two songs for a compilation, which was never released. The songs were sent to several record labels, and Lifeforce Records was the first to offer the band a record deal. The band's first self-titled MCD came out in the summer of 1998. To promote the CD, Caliban played many shows all over Europe and a few support shows for bands like Morning Again, Earth Crisis, and Cro-Mags.
After their European tour, in 1999 Caliban entered the studio to record their first full-length CD, entitled A Small Boy and a Grey Heaven. The CD received favorable reviews in many big zines and many smaller hardcore and metal zines. The band was described as a mixture of Slayer, Poison the Well, and Hatebreed.
Vent came out in April 2001. Vent was released by Imperium Records and by Howling-Bull Records in Japan. Shortly after the release, Caliban was offered the opportunity to tour Japan to play the Beast-Feast 2001 in the Yokohama Arena, sharing stage with bands including Slayer, Pantera, Machine Head, Biohazard, and Morbid Angel. The Japan trip was followed by a US tour with Bloodjinn, which was interrupted by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
In August 2002 Caliban recorded their third official release Shadow Hearts. This record was more melodic and harmonic than its predecessors. In 2004 the band got a record deal with Roadrunner Records and started to record their fourth album, The Opposite From Within, alongside famous producer Andy Sneap.
In July 2005 the band again made a record with their friends from Heaven Shall Burn called The Split Program II.
In February 2006 the band released the album The Undying Darkness. It was produced by Anders Friden, the vocalist of In Flames.
In May 2007 the band released The Awakening. They are using 7 string guitars and less clean vocals in their new material. There are 12 songs on this album.
They are currently touring Europe with Soilwork, Sonic Syndicate, and Dark Tranquillity, on the Vans Eastpak Antidote Tour.

My heart's cut, stitched and scarred
My feelings non-existent
My lust stuffed in a jar
Born with the devil in me
The world is weak
I'm the powers that be (Born with the)
It's in me
It's in me
Until it breaks free
Something's inside of me
Something's inside of me (Something)
Something's inside of me (Can't hold it back)
Something, something inside
Love to see you plead and weep
Watching the light passing from your eyes
Love to taste your salty tears
It's time to kiss your life goodbye
Born with the devil in me
The world is weak
I'm the powers that be (Born with the)
Born with the devil in me
It's in me
It's in me
Until it breaks free
Until it breaks free
Until it breaks free
Something's inside of me
Something's inside of me (Something)
Something's inside of me (Can't hold it back)
Something, something inside
I'm a dragon, I never truly die
I'm a dragon, I'm never satisfied
Feel my wrath
You can't hold me back
You can't hold me back
Something's inside of me
Something's inside of me (Something)

The lyrics of Caliban's song "Dragon" convey a strong sense of inner turmoil and darkness within the singer. The opening lines suggest a deep sense of detachment and numbness, with the soul wrapped in plastic, the heart scarred, and emotions seemingly suppressed or nonexistent. The imagery of lust being "stuffed in a jar" further accentuates a sense of containment and imprisonment of primal desires.
The repeated assertion of being "born with the devil" hints at a pervasive feeling of darkness or evil within the singer, contrasting with a world perceived as weak. The singer sees themselves as holding immense power, embodying the forces that govern their existence. This internal struggle is described as something that is contained within them until it eventually breaks free, suggesting a looming sense of inevitable release or reckoning.
The provocative imagery of enjoying the suffering of others, relishing in their pain and impending demise, underscores a sadistic and malevolent nature within the singer. The desire to witness suffering and taste tears hints at a twisted pleasure derived from the vulnerability and anguish of others. This thirst for power and domination is further emphasized in the repeated assertion that the devil resides within the singer, shaping their actions and desires.
The final verses of the song evoke the singer's self-identification as a dragon, a mythical beast known for its destructive power and insatiable appetite. The dragon symbolizes an unquenchable thirst for dominance and a relentless drive for destruction. The defiant declaration of "You can't hold me back" coupled with the ominous urging to feel their wrath conveys a sense of impending chaos and the inevitability of their unleashed fury. Overall, the lyrics paint a chilling portrait of inner darkness, power, and the destructive forces that lie within the singer.
