He started gaining recognition in Portugal in 1979 after winning the "Grande Noite do Fado" (Great Fado Night). Camane was formerly married to another great fadista, Aldina Duarte.
He has released five albums: "Uma Noite de Fados" (1995), "Na Linha da Vida" (1998) marking the beginning of three records produced by José Mário Branco, "Esta Coisa da Alma" (2000), "Pelo Dia Dentro" (2001) and "Como sempre... Como dantes" (live in 2003). These have been released in several european and asian countries. He has been distinguished with several awards for his voice and talent.

Mas não cheguei a dançar
Entrei na dança de roda
Mas não cheguei a dançar
Enganei todas as voltas
Não me deixaram ficar
Enganei todas as voltas
Não me deixaram ficar
As águas verdes sem fundo
Desci por não ter mais forças
As águas verdes sem fundo
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não quero voltar ao mundo
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não quero voltar ao mundo
Entrei na dança e pedi
Alguém que fosse meu par
Entrei na dança e pedi
Alguém que fosse meu par
Não falei senão de ti
Não me deixaram ficar
Não falei senão de ti
Não me deixaram ficar
Desci por não ter mais forças
As águas verdes do lago
Desci por não ter mais forças
As águas verdes do lago
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não voltarei a ser escravo
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não voltarei a ser escravo
Entrei na dança contente
De poder enfim dançar
Entrei na dança contente
De poder enfim dançar
Quando viram quem eu era
Não me deixaram ficar
Quando viram quem eu era
Não me deixaram ficar
Desci por não ter mais forças
As águas verdes sem fim
Desci por não ter mais forças
As águas verdes sem fim
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não me separo de mim
Mesmo que voltem as forças
Não me separo de mim
The starting phrase of Camané's song "Dança de Volta" translates to "I joined the ring dance, but didn't dance." The song is about feeling like an outsider, someone who's not welcome and can't fully participate. The singer describes how he tried to blend in, but the others quickly caught on to the fact that he wasn't one of them. He speaks of being denied a partner to dance with, despite asking for their help.
He then speaks of his descent into the depths of a body of water, representing his depression and hopelessness. He feels that he's lost all strength and can't come back to the surface, even if he were to regain his power. He expresses that he doesn't want to return to this world, implying that it's a dark, unwelcoming place for him.
In the second verse, the singer enters the dance again, but this time he's happy to dance. However, the others still reject him when they realize who he is. He then reaffirms his separation from the world around him, saying that even if he were to gather strength again, he won't compromise his own identity to fit in.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dança de Volta" explore themes of isolation, rejection, and the struggle to fit in. The singer's experience of feeling like an outsider is something that many people can relate to, and the use of water imagery adds to the sense of despair and hopelessness.
