Cats And Dogs
Camille Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They just pretend
They just pretend
It's just emotions we invent
Like photographs we put on shelves
Cats and dogs are not our friends
Scratch their ears
And if it rains again next weekend
It's all because of them
Little doggy
Come to mummy
Cats and dogs are not our friends
They just pretend
They just pretend
It's just emotions we invent
So we forget we’re by ourselves
Little catty
Come to daddy
Miaou miaou
Ouaf ouaf ouaf ouaf
You feed your dog
You feed your cat
You feed your kids
You feed your wife
You feed your pets
Aren't you fed up to
feed the world around
You feed the world around!
In the song "Cats and Dogs," Camille speaks about how our pets are not actually our friends, but instead just faking it. She compares our relationship with them to putting pictures on shelves - something that we do to convince ourselves that we are not alone. She repeats the phrase "they just pretend" several times throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that our pets are not capable of true friendship. Despite this, she acknowledges that we still care for them and feed them just like we do for our own family members. The song ends with Camille questioning why we continue to feed everything and everyone around us, asking if we aren't fed up with the constant responsibility.
Overall, the message of the song is one of loneliness and questioning the relationships we have with those around us. Camille suggests that even our pets, who we consider to be our companions, are not truly there for us. Instead, we invent emotions and connections to make ourselves feel better. This concept is a sobering reminder of the importance of genuine human connection.
