He Calls Home
Candlebox Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I see him everyday
In that blanket that he calls home
I wonder does he know
That his family they're left alone
He says brother can you spare
Can you spare a dime
See I'm down to my last dollar
And this life of mine
Said this life of mine
It gets rough at times
And I wonder does he know
Does he even care
That his family's safe at home and they wonder where
As he wanders through his life ever searchin' for
A warm blanket on warm fields and he wanders on
And I wonder is he safe from the cold
Well I see he left the other day
Took his blanket that he called home
I wonder did he go for good
Or did he pass away
Well I wonder does he know
Now I'm down to my last dollar
And this life of mine
It gets rough at times
It gets rough at times
And I wonder does he know
Does he even care
That times
It gets rough at times
And I wonder does he know
Does he even care
That my family's safe at home
And I wonder where
As I wander through my life
Ever searchin' for
My warm blanket on fields as I wander on
And I wonder
Will I always be helped along I said I
I'll never know
Because I
I'll never go and yes, I
I wonder why
Because I
I'll never go home
I'll never come home
Oh won't you let me come home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Candlebox's "He Calls Home" tells the story of a homeless man whom the singer sees often on the streets. The man carries a blanket with him wherever he goes, which he refers to as his home. The singer wonders if the man even knows that his family is left alone and worries about his safety from the cold. The song portrays the thoughts and emotions of the singer who is also struggling to make ends meet but still has a family to support. The lyrics suggest that the singer is trying to understand the homeless man's choice to live a life of wandering and is empathizing with his struggles while also feeling the weight of their own hardships.

Through this song, Candlebox is raising awareness about the issue of homelessness and highlighting the struggles and mental agony that people experience on the streets. The lyrics also seem to challenge the listener's perspective and urge them to consider the daily struggles of homelessness that often go unnoticed. The song's somber yet powerful melody and Kenny Olson's guitar solo add to its emotional resonance.

30 years old and the song still resonates, homelessness drug addiction, and those people are all our brothers sisters fathers mothers, so many lost to fentanyl and heroin, love your people cause they might get lost one day and need your help.

Damn good album... But definitely not the strongest to come from that era.... You made a bad comment. DIRT was the strongest album to come out that era !!!!!

Candlebox was kinda the outcast of Seattle because of all the other mainstream bands. And candlebox didn't party like all the rest.
